After experiencing the BA (Hons.) Performance: Theatre at Saint Johns College, York, I decided it was not the course I wanted to do, and that a Primary Education degree would be a better preparation for teaching rather than a one year PGCE course. I have always held aspirations to become a teacher, specifically in the primary sector. Since 1999, I have held voluntary work experience placements at Holbrook Primary School, amounting to two and a half terms work in total.
After withdrawing from York, I decided to take the opportunity to extend my experience in schools on a voluntary basis at a local Special School (Beacon Hill Special School, Ipswich). This resulted in my being offered a full-time paid position as a Special Support Assistant. I have found myself inspired by the challenge of encouraging these young people to realise their potential and this has further cemented my decision to become a teacher.
I have a particular interest in drama. During High School I was a member of the Wolsey Youth Theatre in Ipswich. This involved me in various productions; The Railway Children, Watership Down, A Christmas Carol, and Roald Dahls Boy. I also participated in High School productions. I think that these skills are very important, because I have already found that drama can be a useful educational tool, especially in the early stages of learning.
I have completed my Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award, which I found a great challenge, but very rewarding. I also hold Grade 5 in Trombone, Grade 1 cornet, and Award 6 in trampolining.

This has improved my organisational skills, which has reflected my ability to combine part-time work with college effectively. Working as part of a team and serving members of the public has also improved my social skills, making me more confident when working with others.

The most important element of my classroom, my office, or my home is a personal relationship. I have figured this out on examination of my activities in high school (youth group regional president), college (telephone crisis counselor, resident advisor), or profession (teacher). As a teacher I made a point of getting to know every student in my classes personally. It quickly became my experience that students were more willing to learn, work, and excel when they were appreciated as individuals and when they knew that the adult in the classroom genuinely liked them.
After a few years' experience teaching seniors, I accepted a teaching job at the middle school with the freshman class that had just learned they would not physically be moving to the high school. How would I motivate and get to know these kids? Everything that I had ever heard about or remembered about 9th grade made me want to turn and run. But what convinced me to take this job was technology. In my interview I learned that instead of the library, I was to use the Internet (the what?). I was told that I would receive a laptop computer (aren't those the things that people with real jobs used?) and that the kids could teach me anything I needed to know.
Computers became my thing. Immediately I began to learn how to surf the Internet from 8th and 9th graders (Sanj and Judy said I was teachers' pet). My kids opened up and set aside their raging adolescence to use technology to help me and help each other. As the year with the freshmen continued, I was overjoyed. First, my kids and I had the best rapport in years (gosh Miss Glazer, are all of your PowerPoint slides gonna look the same?). Second, my creativity in teaching increased as new doors were opened to me and in turn to my students (conspiracy takes on a whole new meaning when the Internet is your primary source). Third, I was learning new and exciting things. I had finally found a combination of skills that affected my students in such a positive way that I knew I had to share my findings.
I have since taken my computer knowledge, instructional design ideas, plus my emphasis on personal relationships and applied it to teachers and students in my district and other districts in the North Texas area.
Through the Learning, Design, and Technology program at Stanford University I hope to continue on the route that started for me at the middle school. I know that I will learn new things and have an opportunity to apply them to educational settings. I also know that I will be able to establish relationships with colleagues, professors, and other students. Although a master's degree is the short term goal, I believe that my long term goal remains the same as when I began using technology in my classroom three years ago: to see students better educated through a curriculum infused with technology by teachers who do not lose sight of the personal relationships that benefit all kids.
This long-term goal may be achieved by working in a single school, a school district, or an educational center. It may be reached by teaching new teachers on the university level, by instructing at-risk students in a county after-school program, or by designing a terrific new classroom model and implementing it through a regional education lab with a grant from the U.S. Department of Education.

I wish to combine these two passions and follow my ambition to become a journalist by continuing my studies into Higher Education. It is well known that power attracts and I, like many others, have become enchanted by the power of the written and spoken word. This fascination has created a deep interest in writing, and Journalism provides the perfect outlet to develop my skills.
Ive heard enough about the media industry to realise that experience is everything, and as Sixth Form Reporter on the College committee, I gain regular experience of journalistic writing and meeting deadlines. I have written for the official college Network, which is sent home to parents, and the Student Newspaper.
When selecting my A Level subjects, I seemed drawn to essay based courses. I enjoy writing and the courses undoubtedly helped my writing skills. However, I was required to make the opening of a film in Media, which was an experience to say the least! It increased my interest in Broadcast Journalism. Until that moment, I only had eyes for Print. Creative writing has always been one of my favourite aspects of English, and the coursework gave me the chance to write in whichever style I chose, one piece was a newspaper feature on Chelsea Football Club. I have always been interested in Sports Writing and Im considering specialising in it at a later date. I have chosen to continue four of my five AS Levels onto A2, even though it was not necessary. I have always found Psychology quite challenging as it involves deep levels of critical analysis, so I decided to carry on as I find it extremely intriguing. The different theories as to why humans do the things they do, attract me because I am interested in how people act, though one could hardly call me an anthropologist! My main priorities are English, Media and Sociology as I feel they will aid me most in my ambition, although I still find Psychology a fascinating subject.
I have often said that nothing is impossible, yet asking me to name my favourite book is asking too much. Some much-loved literature includes The Hobbit, Gone With The Wind, and Jane Eyre. In my opinion a good novel should evoke a variety of emotions from beginning to end. Music may not be my first love, but it is definitely one of my passions; I have high passes in grade 3 flute, singing, and grade 5 piano. Like my literary tastes, my choice of music is eclectic; I like anything from hip-hop to classical, soul to rock, and past to present. I also love Black history, musicals, and icons of film and music, such as Audrey Hepburn, John Lennon, and Sinatra. Lennon once said, We all want to change the world, I empathise with this view and seek to achieve it using my chosen profession and the power of the media.

In this age of information, traditional education, both in its ideology and methodology, has met unprecedented challenge like many other aspects of human existence. The educational model that is centered around the cognitive and intellectual instruction has been seriously questioned. It is also important to carry out educational experimentations in which educational predictions are complemented by educational feedbacks. Both the complexity of education and the complexity of human individuals have made the comprehensive application of diverse educational approaches necessary. Those new horizons are what fascinate me.

出国留学选择专业参考指南
一、专业的排名
对于排名,我们要理智看待,其实专业的排名,没有你想象的那么重要。
也可以说,这排名的重要性可能被过度放大了,它实际没有你看到的那么大。
举个例子,哈佛之前在很多工程专业的排名上都上不了榜,但是几年之间,就到10多位了。
后来可能专业建设的好等原因,排名又上升了。这个可以说明,专业排名是可能有变数的。
另一个方面,你需要注意的是排名背后的故事。
其实排名的依据很复杂,和该专业里面有多少老师,这些老师总共拿了多少funding,每年又发了多少文章等等都有关系。
但是,这个是按照整体来算的。
也就是说,很可能拿一个100多个老师的系和一个只有15个老师的系去比,那么结果就很明显了。
可是,反过来说,我们更为关心的是这个系老师的平均能力和分数。
如果仔细看排名,就会发现有些学校虽然老师不多,但是也有60、70,有的学校100多位
老师,也不过就50、60,还是要看自己的判断。
这样的例子常见于一个小的私立和一个州系统里面的公立。
二、专业的对口
就不用过多强调了,相信大家自己也能体会到专业不对口的郁闷。
不要轻易放弃自己的专业,尤其是当这个专业在找工作时能起到很大帮助的时候。
之前有同学,在EE里面做微波,后来因为没资金就转到了物理。但是要知道,在EE里面4、5年毕业算是个比较正常的情况。
物理可能要6、7年,且自身专业只是偏向物理,与真正的物理研究还是有出入,耽误了最终就业的时间。
如果真的觉得自己不适合,可以考虑改变自己的专业,但希望刚入学的同学可以先深入了解一下自己的专业,再做出抉择。
很多行业领域还是需要深耕、专业的符合自己的兴趣,听起来虽然挺随意,其实很重要。
很多同学可能连自己的兴趣都不太确定,所以选专业时自然就忽略了这一点。
只有这个专业符合你的兴趣,才能在后期学习时,尽自己努力去学好,才容易做出成就。只有热爱,才会拼劲全力。
因为专业很大程度上影响了未来就业的职位方向,如果不够热爱,在后期的工作中,同样可能无法做出大的成就。
三、就业形势
从长远来看,还要考虑到毕业后的就业状况。
劳动力市场信息委员会(LMIC)研究了大学生毕业以后,不同专业、不同学历、不同国籍、不同性别对年收入和薪资涨幅的影响。

I was born in Xiamen, Fujian Province in China on November 8, 1969. Later, my family moved to Beijing where I grew up. I am from a family of academics. My father is a professor of linguistics and Chief of the University Journal Agency of Beijing Language and Culture University (formerly Beijing Language Institute). My mother is a professor at the same university and teaches Chinese as a foreign language. From 1991 to 1993, my mother taught Chinese at Wittenberg University, Ohio and Indiana University at Bloomington. She encouraged me to apply for admission to advanced programs in the U.S.
I graduated from high school in 1988, and received the highest scores in my school at the National Entrance Examination for Universities. This made me an “Honor Student” at the national level. Upon acceptance to Beijing Language and Culture University, my major became English, with minors in linguistics, French and computer science. I was awarded consecutive scholarships for all four years in college. During my college years, I became more and more interested in linguistics. My senior year was largely devoted to topics in linguistics, and my required thesis work focused on the influence of cultural and educational factors upon the Chinese and English languages.
After college, Beijing Science & Technology University employed me. For the first year and a half I was assigned to a project aimed at creating improved computer program for idiomatic English-Chinese & Chinese-English translations. This project proved me with considerable experience linguistics, and further improved my understanding of the subtleties of both English and Chinese.
Since the project completion, I have been teaching intensive English courses at Beijing Science and Technology University. Since July of 1993, I have taught English listening comprehension at Beijing Language and Culture University. The latter classes are part of a program that provides adult Chinese professionals with opportunity to improve their English.
My interest in linguistics is initially based on my desire to better comprehend the English language, and, in the process, learn more about my own language. China is now opening and engaging in ever expanding cultural and financial relations with the English-speaking countries of the West. It has struck me, as it may have occurred to many of my compatriots that negotiations to bring about these new and improved relations sometimes break down because of mutual ignorance about each other’s languages. I am aware that this has been a popular problem for study, among Americans engaging in business and other fields, but I am not aware of any serious attempt to research this problem from a Chinese point of view.
Through my work in the U.S., I would hope to contribute to a better understanding of the problems inherent in the deep differences between the two languages.
I recognize that a thesis project in most graduate schools is chosen after on has studied in various programs in a department and after extensive discussion with one’s professors. Nevertheless, I would hope that investigating socio-cultural differences between English and Chinese might be considered a suitable topic. Such a study would focus on the cultural, historical, traditional and educational factors, which influence the two languages, and significantly contribute to possible misinterpretations.
My long-term plan is to continue working on comparative aspects of English and Chinese linguistics. I strongly desire to work in an academic environment combining teaching, research and writing.

French A-level has also strengthened my skills to successfully learn a language with its grammar, vocabulary and culture.
I have recently been on a five day work placement with my local paper. It was a great experience where I gained the insight into the daily life of a journalist and I was able to write articles which required piecing together through photojournalism and interviews in order to produce the finished article. It also provided me with the practice to prepare me for both University and my future career. I have written articles for my school newspaper and hope to write more in the future. I've slowly been gaining practical experience alongside my academic learning. Two years ago, I was lucky enough to get work experience with a television crew on location as a runner. I learnt the value of working as a member of the team in a stressful environment and I gained an understanding of the processes of TV production. I have also been involved in several other media projects, some as coursework and others undertaken independently.Coursework projects have included a magazine for young male teenagers; designing a product and advertising campaign; and producing, directing and presenting a documentary for sixth formers and their parents on the EMA system. As extra-curricular activities, I designed a poster and Internet campaign for one of the school plays and in the absence of any existing school publication, I launched a bimonthly newsletter, aimed at Angley's students. These projects have provided great learning experiences, enabling me to develop print software skills in a creative way.
Other school activities have included, the lead male role in 'South Pacific' and significant roles in 'Oliver' and 'West Side Story' as well as assisting the Performing Arts A-level group perform their comedy show. By playing roles on stage, my confidence has increased and I have learnt to appreciate and learn from the talents of others. I am also a school prefect, which I find satisfying and a great privilege.
In my leisure time I enjoy making films - mostly parodies of various genres. I then edit the films using a programme called Magix Movie Edit Pro. I have also edited on Final Cut Express, which has made an interesting comparison. My next project is to learn Final Cut Pro, and to develop a more effects-driven style. I also like to read, for example, I was inspired by Naomi Klein's book No Logo on the effects of globalization, the commoditisation of our culture and public spaces and how powerful brands have become. I am currently reading Graeme Burton's Media & Society to gain some additional perspective on my A2 media and to prepare myself for my degree.
So far I have enjoyed myself in my studies and hopefully have developed some of the skills and qualities for success in degree-level communications, media and culture studies.

英国人主要是吃面食和肉类,米饭也会吃,超市里面的食材也是非常新鲜的一价格也不是很贵,是比较合理的。英国的华人超市有很多国内的食物买,如果你会自己做饭的话是可以有充足的食材给到你的,电器、食材、调料各种中国的厨房用品你都是可以买到的。即使你不想做饭但又想吃中国菜,英国各个城市都是有中国餐厅的,不过在英国吃中国菜是比较昂贵的。英国人喜欢喝茶和咖啡,但是他们不太喜欢喝热水,喝水一般都是喝的凉水,即使在寒冷的冬天也是这样。在英国的学校你也看不到有接热水的地方。
三、住宿
在英国学校的住宿环境是比较好的,平时上课也比较方便,如果你是喜欢独处的一个人你可以选单人床房间,如果你想交朋友你可以选2-4人房的,每个学生都有单独的衣柜。在校外找房子住是相对来说比较自由的,当然房租也要比宿舍贵很多,每个城市的房租不同,看你选的学校是哪个城市的,伦敦肯定是比较贵的。还可以住在英国的当地人的家里面,他们会把你当成他们家庭中的一员,你可以和他们一起吃饭,一起参加家庭聚会,也是要交费用的。
四、出行

After my GCSE’s, I held a temporary job as a junior in an Insolvency practice, in order to gain work experience. I used the skills learnt to enhance my role as the Managing Director of my young Enterprise company, particularly methods of motivation and delegation, and the significance of being accountable for others. Having spent nearly three years working part time in a Health food shop alongside my studies, I developed my communication skills, with both colleagues and customers, and proved to be a trustworthy employee.
Being appointed as Deputy Head Boy in the sixth form was a great honour to me. My skills were greatly enhanced by holding this position, as I would often have to listen, and respond to issues brought up by fellow prefects, and students lower down the school. Through activities such as Lunch duty, I learnt the worth of different leadership skills, and that it is important to treat everyone as an individual in order to get results. I was always keen to stay into the evening to help out at school events.
Socialising is very important to me, and I am always keen to meet new people. I enjoy trying new foods to increase my knowledge of different cultures, and my culinary skills will prove very useful in independent university life. I enjoy travelling, and learning about modern history. Having recently returned from Prague, I visited a concentration camp. This was a moving experience for me, and something I will never forget. Music is one of my biggest hobbies, and I use music to help me unwind and reflect on things. I use the internet to keep up with current affairs and sports news.
I have always been a keen sportsman, representing my school in many sporting activities. I enjoy running, particularly competing in sprint races, but also long distance running as a means of keeping fit. I always try to go for a run every evening, during breaks between my A Level studies. I represented my school as a keen member of the district and Maccabi Great Britain athletics teams, particularly in the relay. I formally played tennis and table tennis in national competitions, and more recently I have played in football, rugby, and cricket leagues outside of school.

一、办理签证
签证是大家合法出入境的证明,留学生办理的是学生签,需要大家准备好相应的材料之后,再去使馆递交申请,此前还需要递交电子申请,预约好时间,并且准备材料。
要出事的材料,主要有担保信(由学校进行出示)、录取通知的复印件、个人护照(有效期需要在半年以上)、保证金证明和体检的完整报告原件,还有申请表两份。
二、确定住宿
如果之前已经提交了学校的宿舍的申请了的话,及时登录网站进行查询,看看自己有没有申请成功,一般会优先发放给留学生,成功之后需要及时的确认入住,并且缴纳房租。
如果没有申请成功,那么就需要联系学校周边出租的公寓的负责任,一般会有官方的网站,大家直接选择和是的位置的房子,进行申请,之后会由工作人员和你取得联系。
三、预定机票
签证到手并且确定了出行的时间之后,就可以购买机票了,跨国的机票购买也并不难,自己动手的话,除了要填写身份证等信息,还需要填写护照的相关信息。
当然还是委托各中介或者通过第三方来进行购买,他们可以监控票价的变化,为你买到更便宜的机票,将自己的信息交给他们就可以了。
四、准备行李
最后才是行李的准备,中泰两国的生活差异不算特别大,所以大家的行李还是尽量要精简,这样可以减少出行的负担,当然必要的东西还是不能够忘记的。
例如相关的证件,尤其是身份证,虽然在泰国不需要,但是出入境的时候都是需要出示的;以及现金,泰国并没有普及手机支付,大部分时候是刷卡和现金。
留学入境流程一览
一、入境检查
大家从飞机上下来之后,首先需要接受入境的基本检查,需要大家带好自己的随身行李,准备好护照和入境卡,入境卡是初次进入泰国的人必须要在飞机上填好的材料。
大家跟随大厅内的“Arrivals”指示牌,抵达海外人士接受检查的入境检查处,检查出一般写着“Immigration”或者“Passport Control”,大家直接进入递交证件即可。
二、转机手续
大部分的学生会选择直接从国内飞往泰国,不过有时候直飞的机票会比较贵,或者在出行高峰期的时候,机票已经售罄,那么大家就只能够被迫选择转机。
其实转机也是比较方便的,大家一般会从新加坡或者马来西亚转机,还可以顺便去那里逛一逛,领取登机牌的时候会得到一份转机指南,大家只需要按照指示来做就可以了。
三、领取行李
通过了入境的检查,并且确认了身份之后,大家就可以前往行李传送带处出拿行李了,大厅会有专门的显示牌,指示大家应该前往哪个区域领取行李。
大家只需要确定好自己的航班,在前往相应的位置,一般接受了检查之后行李也已经出来了,直接找到拿走。
四、海关检查
最后一步是接受来自海关的检查,主要是对行李的检查,如果有需要申报的物品,那么要进行非常仔细的检查,而如果没有申报的物品,那么只需要过扫描。
大家要记得,电脑等贵重物品是需要进行申报的,而且可以准备好购买的收据,这样才能够撇清偷渡的嫌疑,而且规定禁止入境的东西千万不要拿。
