An experienced engineer of security printing with China’s Central Bank, I now would like to scale higher intellectual heights by pursuing Ph. D. studies in mechanical engineering at your university. I believe that my strong background in CAD has adequately prepared me to embark on this endeavor.
I have been working since 1996 for the People’s Bank of China, a Chinese version of the Federal Reserve, at its unique research institute of security printing, with the responsibility of designing the Chinese currency and the machinery to produce it. By engaging me in a variety of projects, the job afforded me ample exposure to cutting-edge developments in computer technologies, particularly in CAD software. I have, for example, recently redeveloped a purchased CAD (Computer Aided Design) software to make it more suitable for our own purposes. By adding our own part/subassembly to the database and make our own drawing criteria, we have achieved dramatically better efficiency.
My job performance, which has won me professional respect from all of my colleagues, was achieved thanks to the strong background I acquired as a student in computer science. My undergraduate GPA ranked first among the 63 students of classmates in mechanical department, for which I was awarded first-class and second-class prizes many times. My graduate GPA ranked among the top 4% of the 105 students in my year, which won me the “San Hao” scholarship every year during the three years of my graduate studies.
Unlike many other Chinese students, who are content with performing well in exams, I made a point of learning through my own hands-on experiences. In the Master’s program at the Beijing Institute of Printing, I gained an in-depth understanding of artificial intelligence, including expert system and genetic algorithm, especially in neural network. For my thesis, I programmed a multi-level BP neural network with C language to analyze my mathematical model, and applied much of my knowledge in optimization. I thus became able to program with a host of different computer languages, especially C++, with which I helped my graduate advisor to design a paper-cutting machine. To analyze the mechanism statically and dynamically, I programmed a software system to analyze and emulate it on screen. In undergraduate studies, I had often programmed with Fortran77 and the Basic language.
Upon the completion of my Master’s studies, I easily passed the doctoral record examination in CAD/CAM of Beijing University, one f the top universities in China. But I gave up the opportunity in order to gain more practical experience in the industry. The decision proved to be right, as it guaranteed me better access to sophisticated facilities, such as state-of-the-art personal computers. With the People’s Bank of China, I have thus accumulated solid expertise in many kinds of operating and application software systems, particularly in CAD. I now have a firm grip on the latest developments in computer science in China.
The challenges I met and the successes I achieved at the People’s Bank have not only endowed me with confidence but also fired off my desire to further improve myself. I have enjoyed high-quality and efficient production with the use of a kind of PC-based CAD software, MDT, developed by Autodesk Corporation. I now have a dream: some day, every person can design his favorite product with some sort of CAD software, and then search for an ideal factory over high-speed internet its production; and the factory will put specifications of the product, as it has received them via the high-speed internet into its CIMS, and out pops the product, as designed, at the end of the factory’s production line. It is a beautiful dream for every engineer, but many difficulties the speed of data-transfer and how to manage the product data among CAD, CAM, CAPP and CAE systems. These questions are fascinating, and I would like to come up with my own answers to them.
To prepare myself for advanced studies in your country, I have persisted in improving my English proficiency. As demonstrated by my score of 700 (96%) in the verbal section of GRE, I now have an adequate command of English for undertaking graduate studies in your program.

I am currently studying Fashion Marketing at the University of the Arts London. London is very fast paced which I like and the atmosphere is vibrant. I wanted to study Fashion marketing because I wanted to learn know more about the business side of Fashion. I am influenced by designers like Alexander McQueen because of his edgy style and Ralph Lauren more so because I used to work for the company, but I like his style because of the sophistication of some of his designs and the preppy look, the polo shirts and oxford shirts with riding boots.
Since starting the course with a business mind set, I have discovered that I am particularly drawn to marketing. I know that to excel in this subject will really take me where I want to be. I would like to have my own agency in the future, and possibly would look in the long term to a career in buying, as I have enjoyed learning about fashion trend predictions, and the influence of street style on the catwalk.
I was fortunate enough to work for Polo Ralph Lauren for nearly 3 years. I learnt an amazing amount about high end fashion retail business. I worked in sales, cashing up, training new staff, and visual merchandising. I have also worked for Ozwald Boateng as a summer temp this year, where I have learned more about couture lines since they make bespoke couture suits which are tailored and fitted. It was there that I learned to alter garments which I am sure will prove very useful to me.
By working in retail I have gained confidence which is important in our every day life, organisational skills, I am also a good team player as you always have to work as a team in sales, I have also been a team leader and alsoI have had to manage people which takes courage and commitment, I pay attention to the smallest detail because everything I do has to be perfect because I thrive in my work.
I also have a passion for designing; I have done a few clothes designs of my own and intend to do more. I find designing a good skill to have because you get to be creative and use your imagination to create something so extraordinary. Too shocked to react to the secretary's condescending smirk, I attempted to grasp why a textbook opportunity for teamwork became such a spectacular failure. What had I done to attract such hostility? I had just wanted to help. I called my engagement manager to complain, but he just accused me of handling the situation poorly. I was crushed and convinced that I was not cut out for consulting.
To this day, I am not sure why Adam was so hostile. Retrospectively, I can only guess that he was insulted and threatened, because no one had formally requested his assistance. Instead, a twenty-two-year-old appeared in his office, ready to perform one of his most challenging tasks.
Adam and I never became friends, but the incident profoundly affected the way I communicate. Now, every time I interview a client, I begin by exploring and allaying any fears the person might have. AIDS is a very sensitive topic that people are very reluctant to publicly discuss in China, due to the innate conservatism of Chinese culture. Government also avoids talking about it by blaming lack of information. Gradually, the disease has become a forbidden zone full of controversy and misunderstanding in the public eye. People have either not heard about it, or just do not know what to do with it. Some are so scared of it that they do not want to have any physical contact with infected people. Even in the health care industry, many people do not have sufficient knowledge of it, according to our surveys. However, in sharp contrast to the public’s ignorance are the brutal facts that we can no longer turn a blind eye. It is estimated that in China, there are 740,000 people living with HIV/AIDS, and the number is still climbing rapidly year by year. Each year, nearly half of the new reported cases are under twenty-five.
As a group highlighting this sensitive issue in the face of people’s traditional views, we met with much doubts, disbelief and resistance. Many people openly mocked and shunned us. “AIDS is a western disease. How can it appear here?” “I do not want to talk to AIDS patients because I do not want to be infected.” “How is it possible for AIDS to be transmitted between man and man?” “AIDS is an immoral disease, and as long as I do not have sex with people who are immoral, I will be safe.” Faced with such benightedness, we used real stories, persuasive data, and vivid pictures with scientific relevance to help our “students” understand the disease, and we encouraged those concerned with the issue to join our organization. Gradually, people started paying attention and we gained some credibility within some special groups. For one of our events, “Tell the truth”, we invited AIDS experts, patients, and health officials on the same stage, discussing the issue face to face with the pubic. This event gained so much attention after some high profile media reported it that inquiries about our project flooded our mail boxes from all over the country. During this windfall, we received funding support from businesses and government, helping raise our project to a new level. Undoubtedly, fighting against HIV/AIDS is an arduous task and the road is long due to the traits of the virus—its variability and immune suppression. In recent years, China has made some progress on HIV/AIDS prevention and control, but a lack of advanced concepts and expertise poses a bottleneck problem to major breakthroughs. A big desire of mine is to travel, I believe it is an important part of life. I know the places I have visited so far have left an impression on me, I am always keen to discover and explore. Without visiting new places and meeting different people, I would not have as much awareness of the world, I view this as an essential part of design. Whilst some people are terrified by, or worse, ambivalent towards modern poetry, I fail to remain unmoved after reading Jean 'Brita'Breeze' s Moonwise which epitomises the strength of emotion found within a short verse. The beautiful simplicity of the syntax found in such work inspires my creative writin; my poetry has won national competitions and been published in anthologies. Thus my daily diet of literature is a colourful juxtaposition of John Donne's solipsistic love poems, Tess Durbeyfield with her compassionate mentor Hardy and the infamous nobody Mr Pooter. A level English has not dictated but cultivated my critical opinions through analysis of such texts, and so I have been able to appreciate the subtly of fine writing, for example in Joyce's 'Dubliners'
The other subjects I am taking for A level support and complement my continual study of English. The methodology applied to research and evaluate critical arguments undertaken for A level history independent study are paralleled during my consultations with Bradly about Othello. A level biology demands the application of analysis with knowledge, and through my AS physics course I was selected to participate in the Engineering scheme, which enhances my ability to work in a team and to produce reports and presentations. Such attributes were firmly in place after my work experience at the publicity department of Bloomsbury publishing, and in my duties as elected Head Girl
The majority of my extra-curricular activities demonstrate the aptitude I have for English; I write articles for the school magazine, take acting coaching and was the lead role in an all-female production of William Golding's Lord of the Flies.I was awarded a sports scholarship for sixth form, play hockey for the school first XI and represent Somerset at the South West England hockey trials. To the amazement and horror of my friends I have started a running club at my college and the sport has given me great self-motivation and a sense of humour. My outside interests are huge, literally. After hockey and orchestra I regularly have to employ my skills as a manipulator to fit my cello and hockey goal keeping kit in the boot
Although some would argue the study for an English degree is not vocational I see the next few years of my life as the opportunity to become immersed in a subject I love. To develop my potential as a writer, I need to analyse and understand the work of those who inhabit library shelves. 一、加拿大读研究生的申请条件
1、必须拥有学士学位

2、托福、雅思
