Nature has provided us with many kinds of resources. All most everything we use in our everyday life comes from Nature. The food we eat, the water we drink, the clothes we wear, the concrete and bricks to build our houses, the materials to make bikes we ride, etc, all come originally from Nature.

People have been making use of these natural supplies for thousands of years. With the development of technology and the increase of the population, the amount and range of mate rials taken has increased. It is estimated that this tread will continue in the years to come.

However, natural resouces are not in exhaustible. Some resources are already nearly used up. For example, the end of the world's fuel is already within sight. Such an essential daily item as water is in short supply in many parts of the world. We can no longer thoughtlessly use the many resources provided by. Nature. We must learn to conserve what remains.

Water Resources Problems

Life on earth depends on water, and there is no substitute for it. The current assumption is that our basic needs for water-whether for drinking, agriculture, industry or the raising of fish--will always have to be met. Given that premise, there are two basic routes we can go. more equitable access to water or more drastic engineering solutions.

Looking at the engineering solution first, a lot of my research concentrates on what happens to wetlands when you build dams in river basins, particularly in Africa. The ecology of such areas is almost entirely driven by the seasonal change of the river--the pulse of the water. And the fact is that if you build a dam, you generally wreck the downstream ecology. In the past, such problems have been hidden by a lack of information. But in the next century, governments will have no excuse for their blissful ignorance.

The engineers ability to control water flows has created new kinds of uNPRedictability too. 'Dams in Africa have meant fewer fish, less grazing and less floodplain agriculture--none of which were anticipated. And their average economic life is assumed to be thirty years. Dams don't exist for ever, but what will replace them is not clear.

The key issue in any discussion of water is money. To talk about a water crisis hides intractable problems such as poverty.

Consider the problems of water supply in Mexico City or Delhi. If you' re rich, you drink mineral water and may even have a swimming-pool--yet millions in such cities can't get safe drinking water. People talk about the coming water crisis. I believe we have one now. It is a water crisis for the poor.

Love Our Nature

Previously, I lived in the countryside where the sun always rose. Every morning, I got up early to see the sunrise. As the sun came out, trees, flowers, birds and other animals woke up from their long sleep and smiled gently towards the sun. “What a glorious view!” I whispered. But as I moved to the city, I could hardly see such a glorious view now. Nowadays, with the development of society, the living step is so fast that we are always so busy and we don't even have the time to take a breath. While in our free time, we can do nothing but play computer games. What a dull life it is! I eagerly want to return to our nature.

To make things worse, as a result of modernization, pollution is a serious problem. Nowadays we often breathe the dusty air and drink the dirty water. What's more, we always suffer from the noise and the heavy light pollution. I'm really tired of this life. I want to change it. If I have a chance, I will get up early to see the sunrise, in order to embrace our nature.

As far as I'm concerned, our nature is our mother. She offers us everything we want or need. If our nature disappears, human-beings will be in great danger. Therefore, we must love our nature unconditionally. Don't always ask too much from her but return her nothing. Moreover, as her sons and daughters, we should always appreciate for her bounty.

Chinahas a very long and brilliant history, whosepeople are so friendly and hospitable. But I am wondering why some people paysuch little attention to the environment and nature. In many places of thecountryside, rivers have become stinking sewers and brooks have disappeared.Heaps of garbage obstructs the scarce flow of dirty water. The grounds arelittered with plastic bottles and bags. People are cutting down trees eventhough it is illegal. In some towns, rubbish is hidden behind walls. Garbagecans are often of little use, making cleaners must rush all day long and alsoby night to clean the rubbish.

This lack of consideration for nature in general isextremely detrimental to children’s education, toChina’s image, to public health, totourism and to the future.Chinais the common treasure of all Chinese, and we should live up to be a member ofthis big family, a descendant of 5000-year-plus ancient civilized country. Ithink the environment must absolutely be strictly protected by all means. Thisprotection should go at the same pace as the marvelous development of thenation.

In this respect,Germanyis a rare model and leavesme a very deep impression. After you have an exciting tour around in thiscountry for a week or so, it is unnecessary for you to polish your leathershoes. Personally, first of all, the strong awareness of people’s environmentalprotection; then, the advanced technology applied in the field of preservingthe nature; We can learn form others in building China into one of the most environmentallyfriendly places in the world.

大学生英语作文:诚实 Honesty(参考)

Recently, I have seen an impressive film—“Meet theParents”, which is about a woman Palm brought her boyfriend Greg to herparents’ home to spend holiday. In the film, Greg was so dishonest to Palm’sparents that Palm’s father is suspicious of his behavior and quality. As aresult, Greg is obnoxious to all and has to leave. As far as I am concerned, the consequence is heavily caused by his dishonesty. If Greg could be real himall the time, he would get much respect and appreciation and would not get muchfrustration. From the film, I have learned that being honest was extremelyimportant and necessary. In other words, being honest is a basic principle forus to deal with others.

For one thing, we will not get others’ trust unless weare honest. If we deceive others, we would get the same in return, and even noone would make friends with us or even communicate with us. For another, wewill get others’ respect and appreciation if telling the truth. Telling thetruth and being ourselves, we will get a healthy and peaceful surrounding togrow up better.

However, something strange happens in our society. There is a strange phenomenon that honest people suffer but the dishonestbenefit a lot. It made some people have a suspicion that being honest is not soimportant.

But I still believe that these are just a few cases, since honesty is deeply rooted in our minds and we still consider it as a basicprinciple in social contacts.
