I had a very special Christmas day last year. I experienced the western style festival. There was a new foreign teacher taught us the lesson. She was about 50 years old and she was very kind and we all liked her. On Christmas Day, she brought us the desserts she made early in the morning. We enjoyed the home-made cakes. What's more, she invited us to came to her house and spent the day with her. Then for the first time, I ate big turkey, which was so delicious. The turkey was filled with many stuffs and the flavor was so good. After dinner, we sang songs and danced.

Christmas Day is a big day for them, when the day came, they asked us to spend the day with them, because most of them left home and did not have families around. My classmates and I went to the foreign teacher’s home at that day, we brought some presents, when we arrived at his house, we found a beautiful tree with shinning lights. My teachers taught us how to cook all the cookies, we were having such great fun. I made the cookies with many favors. We talked happily and sung Christmas songs.

After the Spring Festival, here comes the Lantern Festival. In China, people celebrate it on the lunar calendar fifteen. It symbolizes the short rest has come to an end after the spring festival; people need to get back to work with their best wishes in the brand-new year. We all celebrated this festival with plenty of food and fun. The most important and traditional food on the Lantern Festival is Tang-yuan. With sweet and soft rice outside and peanuts or sesame inside, this little rice ball stand for the happy reunion, and the best wish for the whole families. Apart from having dinner with parents and relatives, there are also lots of activities on that day. The Lantern shows as well as guessing riddles are part of the Lantern Festival; and the most interesting part of the show is that the riddles are written on the Lantern. After dinner, the whole families go to the lantern fair, to enjoy the happiness in this moment.

At this moment, the happiness in the heart is beyond all description. By watching various lanterns, eating sweet Tang Yuan, and hanging out with the people we love, thinking of the bright future in front of us. It’s worth everything.

On May 12, 2008, there was an earthquake happened in Wenchuan, Sichuan province. More than 69000 people had lost their lives, 374643 people had injured and 17923 people could not be found in this earthquake. After the earthquake had happened, people from all the field joined the rescue teams. At that moment, people only care about one thing, that was to save more people from this disaster and encourage the injure to be strong. After seven day, the chairman declared that May 19 is the national day of mourning. Flags were at half-mast everywhere on the day of mourning for victims of Wenchuan earthquake.在2008年5月12日，四川省汶川县发生了大地震。这次地震造成了超过六万九千人丧生，三十七万多人受伤，十七万多人失踪。在地震发生后，各界人士都参与到救援中去。在那段时间，人们只关心一件事情，那就是尽可能的救助更加多的人，鼓励幸存者坚强面对灾难。七天过后，国家主席宣布五月19日定为全国哀悼日。在这一天，全国降半旗致哀。The mourning day is to remember the people who lost their lives in the earthquake, on one hand, is to remind people do not forget that day, don’t forget about the past and look into the future; on the other hand, is to encourage the survivers to stay strong.
