In a world that is continually growing and evolving and problems such as global warming and population growth becoming ever more real, the need for innovation and fresh ideas from the engineering world becomes increasingly evident. It is this that attracts me to civil engineering as a career because although I am aware of the many pressures and demands I would be facing, the sense of achievement and the knowledge that I would be making a difference to the lives of others would be of great personal reward to me!

My fascination for engineering started when I was young, and has only increased since then. I enjoyed playing video and computer games that required planning and strategy. This interest was then nurtured during my schooling and college years - at school learning about the history of art and how the smallest engineering discoveries led to the biggest architectural breakthroughs, for instance the impact that the arch, concrete and the dome had on Ancient Roman and proceeding architecture. In college I thoroughly enjoyed mathematics and physics particularly in the applied sections, and although my grades do not reflect this, a big portion of my gap year has already been spent on preparation towards of their improvement.

As well as a lot of revision, my gap year so far has been a wealth of new experiences and challenges from things as silly as learning to juggle and ride a unicycle to teaching myself to play the keyboard and getting my motorcycle license. I also had a job as a general labourer working under the site manager on a building site where I worked alongside the tradesmen and occasionally the architect, thereby gaining valuable experience in keeping to the strict requirements of working to time schedules and regulations, planning, problem solving and keeping quality of work up and expenses down. Previous to that I worked at my local supermarket as a general assistant and was eventually promoted to a team leader. I was responsible for liaising with my managers and keeping them up to date with what was happening around the store and making sure my staff knew what was expected of them throughout their shifts as well as doing my own work around the store. This taught me how to deal with people in a variety of situations in a polite and professional manner while also greatly improving my communicational and social skills.

Being born and raised in South Africa and having made the transition and adaptation to English culture and way of life with ease, I have no doubt I would adapt in much the same way to university life. Also I think it is important that I have witnessed the differences in infrastructure between developed and third world countries and their respective effects on the surrounding populations and feel I could use this knowledge to my advantage.

I am a very active person and sport has always been a big part of my life. In high school I captained my cricket and rugby teams and was part of the swimming, tennis and athletics teams and represented my home province in cricket, athletics and surfing. Living over here I am a member of the local cricket and rugby club; I take part in the occasional darts and pool tournaments and am a regular at the local health centre. All of this means I have a lot of experience in performing under pressure, pushing myself and working well as a team.

By the end of my gap year I hope to have: fulfilled my travelling plans where I hope to go backpacking in Asia as I think it will be an awe-inspiring and eye opening experience; have learnt many more new skills and gained more relevant work experience; and hopefully begin a journey into becoming a part of the great and prolific industry of ingenuity and creativity that is the world of engineering.

Almost any technology we take for granted today involves engineering: from mobile phones to space shuttles, engineering certainly has an impact on our daily lives. In July I attended a Headstart course at Loughborough to discover more about this field in general, and it has further secured my opinion that I want to be part of this area of expertise. Working at Steve Leung's Architects in Hong Kong last summer has provided me with a sound opportunity to gain an incredible insight into the areas of architecture and structural engineering. Although it was hard work, I enjoyed the challenges by solving them with scientific and mathematical ideas. Besides, I learnt to use statistical models to solve complex calculations, whilst developing teamwork and time management skills.

I recognize that many people derive their morals from religion, but I insist that religion is not the only fountainhead of morality. I play the saxophone almost every day, but feel most like an artist when deduction is my instrument. I spent one year at a college where I did not belong and two years taking classes irrelevant for my major, but I have no regrets about my undergraduate experience. I am incredibly passionate about my interests, but cannot imagine being interested in only one passion for an entire lifetime.

I love the Yankees, but do not hate the Red Sox. I love sports, but hate the accompanying anti-intellectual culture. I may read the newspaper starting from the back, but I always make my way to the front eventually. I am liberal on some issues and conservative on others, but reasonable about all of them. I will always be politically active, but will never be a political activist. I think everything through completely, but I am never through thinking about anything.

如果想要去德国留学的你申请的是本科，211大学同学必须修满一个学期并提供1个学期合格成绩单，非211同学则需在国内修满至少3个学期并提供3个学期合格成绩单。如果申请德国留学研究生则需要提供在校的6个学期的合格成绩单。

二、语言要求

德国留学申请德语授课最少提供800课时证明或者德福，DSH，歌德学院证书。申请英语授课需要提供雅思6.5的成绩，部分专业要求作品。部分英语授课的项目可能会需要收取一定的学费。

三、开学时间

德国高校主要分两次开学，4月和10月，其中10月为主要的开学季。

四、学校类型

五、APS审核

最后需要重点科普一下APS审核部。它主要工作是对预备赴德留学的中国申请人的入学资格和学历的真实性进行审核，并为通过审核者出具相应的审核证书。简单地说，审核部就是审查中国学生学历真实性的一个机构，所以在参加APS审核前请务必了解清楚大学的专业究竟学了什么。

APS的审核结果有两个，一个是你的课程成绩，因为国内采用的是百分制，而德国用的是比较特殊的算法(1分满分，4分及格)要达到德国入学要求，一般要达到平均分2.5分。也就是国内百分制平均分80分左右。另一个是你的面试成绩，比如优秀/良好/中等/受限。课程成绩只和你的大学成绩有关，和APS面试完全无关。面试成绩的评价由两块组成，一块是普通问题(占15%)，另一块是专业问题(85%)

申请德国留学流程介绍

一、确定学校

一般的准备都需要提前至少一年，至少需要先确认留学的目标，给自己留够时间，对学校和专业进行了解，应该成为大家获取正规信息的来源，了解学校的硬件实力和提供的服务。

With the guidance of my advisor and the cooperation of a doctoral student, I designed the reaction route and conditions, then, synthesized and analyzed the target product. To better accomplish my research project, I took some optional courses like Organic Functional Material and Nanoscience and Technology. My academic ability improved greatly and I received encouragement from my advisor. During that period, my advisor also told me, “The main difference between undergraduate students and graduate students is creativity; a graduate student’s responsibility is to create knowledge, not to obtain knowledge again.” Inspired by her words, I strove to inject my research with greater creativity. As reactants in my experience were very expensive and the yield of the product was very low, I tried many new synthesis schemes and introduced bold modifications. Implementing new catalysts into conventional methods increased the product yield and purity. The result turned out to be rewarding--- a Chinese paper based my results is in preparation. I am confident that my research experience and potential will benefit me in my future study and research.

Due to my outstanding research records, I was selected from thousands of candidates in China to intern in __x Electron Material Company-- a subordinate company of Chinese Academy of Sciences and _ Chemistry—a fortune 500 corporation. During that period, I understood better the formulas and equations in our textbooks from the real world production and procedures. 一、奥斯陆大学
