Dear _,

The Statement of Purpose essay is also required, but you may write and submit it in your native language if it is accompanied by an accurate English translation provided by a third party.

Please describe your areas of academic interest and your career goals. Indicate your reasons for wishing to pursue graduate study at Michigan Law, and how this will contribute to your professional development. You could, for example, focus on your hopes for your career after completing the LLM at Michigan. You could also, for instance, describe how your education, experience and development so far support these hopes and plans.

Personal Statement

Michigan's student body is one of the law school's richest resources. Each entering class is composed of people who bring a unique spectrum of experiences and perspectives to the law school community. With this in mind, please use this essay as an opportunity to introduce yourself to the Graduate Admissions Committee. Each of the required essays must be submitted in English. There is no required length for the essays, but 4-6 pages for the Personal Statement and Statement of Purpose together tend to work well for most applicants. At least one of these essays must be written in English by yourself.

Personal Statement

There is only one formula for a successful personal statement: do not merely reiterate information which you have already provided in your CV. Other than that, different individuals will find different topics to be well-suited to them. Applicants have, for example, elaborated on significant life experiences; meaningful interests and extracurricular activities; factors inspiring them to continue their legal education or to pursue particular career goals; significant obstacles met and overcome; atypical backgrounds, educational paths, employment histories or previous careers. Any of these subjects, and many more, could be an appropriate basis for communicating important information about yourself which will aid us in reaching a thoughtful decision.

Yours sincerely,

Dear _,

Whenever I have set a goal in life, my mind has always drifted to the example set by Lester Wunderman. Growing up poor amidst the Great Depression, he went on to become a marketing mastermind, responsible for innovative direct media techniques such as the insert card and ‘Gold Box’.

Wunderman was never content to accept setbacks. When faced with a struggle, I have always sought to emulate him by emerging from obstacles - not with a sense of defeat - but with a renewed sense of determination and greater problem-solving skills. While at school, I underwent a two-day hospital procedure that caused me to miss a considerable amount of class; as a result, I fell behind in my studies and faced extensive makeup work. I quickly made a vow, however, not to allow my schoolwork to suffer. By spending many hours on my academics even while rebuilding my physical health, I continued to excel in school, achieving high grades in my GCSE’s.

After graduation, I decided to gain exposure to the insurance field, taking a position at Norwich Union Insurance. As a sales advisor, I primarily generated insurance quotes. After one year, I craved greater challenge, deciding to look for new opportunities. Transferring to the travel section, I assumed the position of Travel Executive, during which I performed many customer service tasks and managed the distribution of insurance certificates.Yet, I still yearned for more challenge, more risk and more opportunity. After two years of service at Norwich Union, I decided to enter the perpetually stimulating field of business. However, I wanted to pursue a business career after gaining a thorough mastery of the subject matter; therefore, I needed a university degree.

During 200 , I immersed myself in thorough preparations for business school, learning to write business plans, model businesses and carry out statistical tests. Through my self-directed study and experience in the Management position, I’m thoroughly familiar with the concepts behind strategy, marketing.

While an academic record can reveal much about a person’s character, illustrating traits such as discipline, determination, and responsibility, it does not provide the complete picture. Namely, grades and scores cannot detail lessons learned, challenges met and victories achieved.

Throughout my life, I have always sought greater intellectual stimulation, and this search has typically entailed abandonment of the familiar to pursue the unknown. In my business pursuits, I will continue to adopt this risk-taking approach and will not rest until I reach my maximum level of and operations. I now wish to expand my proficiency in these areas on the MBA program.

Dear _,

Changing the bandage on an angry bulldog’s paw or trimming the hooves of a 2000-pound draft horse can be an intimidating venture. Curing animals requires compassion, precision, and confidence; it is also an excellent way to learn about practicing medicine and to feel the satisfaction of helping someone in need. Due to my rural background, knowledge of animals, and love of science, I began working for a local veterinarian at a young age. Later in life, when I decided to become a physician, I saw that my veterinary experiences had prepared me well for a career in health care.

When I started volunteering in an emergency room, I learned that humans really aren't so different from other animals -- I needed to show my compassion in order to earn their trust before I could heal or comfort them. When a child or widow brought me their dying pet and pleaded for me to cure it, I had to soothe the person as well as the animal. I used this calm compassion in the emergency room when comforting the family of a father who had just suffered a heart attack, or when talking with a husband frantic about his wife’s car accident. I saw further similarities between human and animal medicine when I shadowed Dr. Harry Williams in his family practice. I saw that his close relationship with his patients led him to keep thinking of them long after his office closed for the day. Likewise, as a veterinary technician, I had often carefully considered how to help each animal. Compassion is truly a prerequisite for any career in health care.

In my work with animals, I learned that perseverance is key to successful treatment. Interruption of that treatment can lead to disastrous results. In many rural communities near my home, I witnessed the consequences of the absence of consistent medical care. As a farrier, I have worked in many old-order Mennonite communities whose needs aren’t being met: when one client's daughter injured her hand in a corn sheller, she was unable to get medical care because facilities were far away and no doctors could come to their farm. The girl’s hand was infected and not healing well. I did what I could, but I was troubled that I didn’t have the expertise to treat the injury. On my next visit, I saw that her hand had grown deformed. Had she been able to see a physician more frequently, her hand might have healed correctly. Encounters of this kind have revealed to me the consequences of medically underserved communities. I look forward to working toward a solution to this problem when I am a physician.

A good veterinarian operates with precision. I have applied the careful, exacting skills I learned with animals to my lab work. I am currently involved in research on corneal endothelium with Dr. Carson Kennedy. In the lab, we study mammalian corneal cells; eventually, we would like to describe and prevent ophthalmic diseases such as glaucoma. Through this work, I have honed my scientific skills and sharpened my analytical mind. It is exhilarating to catch a glimpse of valuable knowledge, not yet known by anyone, which has the potential to help many people. It is also very rewarding to know that I have contributed to the advancement of medicine by providing research results that will improve people’s health.

Perhaps the most important quality required to practice human or animal medicine is confidence. In the lab, in the emergency room, and in the field, I have had many opportunities to observe the importance of confident leadership to a medical practice. Over the years, I have observed that the best veterinarians and physicians handle each issue swiftly and appropriately, delegating tasks to others with self-assurance. In every medical situation, someone must take the lead role while working to manage the team. Leadership roles have always come naturally to me -- I spent twelve years working toward becoming an Eagle Scout and helping my younger brother to do the same. The composure I gained as a troop leader helped me to excel in my role as supervisor at a large walking horse farm. Since then, I have grown into leadership roles that required more significant responsibilities. I am comfortable as a leader because I am confident in my ability to ensure the health and safety of others. The leadership skills I have developed will be a vital part of my work as a physician.

When I began working as a veterinary technician, I did not fully realize that the skills I gained would be so applicable to my eventual career as a physician. Yet my experiences with animals have provided me with an excellent foundation to continue my studies of human health and well-being. I am eager to develop the medical knowledge I have gained thus far in order to become the kind of physician my community will be able to rely on.

Yours sincerely,

Dear _,

There is a rapid growth in global organisational concepts, crystallised in Japanese business philosophy, to be as effective as possible in the most efficient way. New technology involving networking information and automation influences the behaviour of business and enables significant transformation. This need to maximise efficiency and effectiveness in such a competitive age is increasingly crucial to the success of a business. This is why it is an exciting and fascinating period in both the commercial and economic world to study Business Management.

Adaptability, creative thinking and the application of technology are now intrinsic to managing businesses. I have developed these principles and enjoyed the spectrum of sixth form study that has taught me to approach problems from different political, economical and psychological perspectives. Throughout Business Studies, to complement what has been taught I have researched real-life business solutions and how they have been implemented, such as the responsive marketing used by Coca Cola to prolong their business cycle and sustain major profitability. Studying ICT has enabled me to examine the criticality of technology in giving businesses a competitive edge by considering issues such as organisational objectives, people and legal implications rather than making decisions based solely on financial factors. Furthermore, studying Psychology gives me insight into the human influences on organisational behaviour through studying motivational theories such as the hierarchy of needs model proposed by Maslow, whilst the coursework has developed my skills in collecting and analysing data in order to establish trends and draw conclusions. Studying English Language has allowed me to develop an ability to express my ideas clearly and concisely.

I have worked for _ as a Tester, assisting in the development of _, the fastest-selling PC game ever. It was a significant learning experience and made me evaluate myself and better understand my strengths and skills, such as the ability to easily identify discrepancies and communicate these effectively to management so that problems can be solved. Recent experience at _ Ltd gave me a taste of working within a larger organisation. Operating within two different, but equally successful organisations has enabled me to see contrasting leadership styles and corporate culture. Within college, I participated in a paired reading project where I listened to and assessed readers lower down the school which required a relaxed, patient and friendly approach with the younger students, as well as punctuality and dedication. Throughout the past year, I have represented the college in district basketball and rugby competitions.

I am a committed member of the Colts team at my local rugby side. I have captained the team in previous seasons which required leadership, confidence and diligence. In my spare time, I enjoy listening to a range of music, going to the gym and socialising. I am a regular reader of the Financial Times, enjoy keeping up with current affairs and business news. I enjoy reading a variety of books, both fiction and non-fiction such as 'Making It Happen' (J. Harvey-Jones) where his common sense approach complements the management theories of more staid texts. This degree will equip me for my career in the unpredictable and fast moving world of commerce.

Yours sincerely,

Dear _,

I hold the British physicist Hawking in great esteem in that he was able to complete such a great work as History of Time when he had to rely on mechanical devices to sustain his life and was deprived of his ability of speech. Although his body was confined to a wheelchair, his mind soared freely in the boundless universe. I was shocked deep in my soul. Therefore, I am convinced that the meaning of a person‘s life, transitory as it is, dwells in learning and innovation. I keep reminding myself that the journey of life that I wish to pursue should consist of incessant progress and innovation.

Hard efforts always pay off. My industry in high school studies ended up in my success of being admitted into ZheJiang University without being required to take entrance examination, which was itself a special honor. There, the liberal academic atmosphere and heavy coursework effectively augmented my horizon of knowledge and my perspective. In the first year of my undergraduate studies, as the 150th top student out of a total of 3000 students, I was selected to study in the Mixed Class which consisted of top students of the University with inter-disciplinary backgrounds. In this class, competitions were unusually fierce. All the basic courses including physics, general chemistry, and mathematical analysis were taught in English and all the textbooks were in English. The curriculum was characterized by great diversity and the level of difficulty of all examinations far surpassed those administered to average students, and even surpassed those in Tsinghua University and Peking University. Though the majority of students initially felt displaced and their GPAs were correspondingly relatively low, the scores represent more than their surface value.

In my undergraduate studies, I chose to specialize in computer science and engineering. Having completed all the basic coursework in the first two years, I devoted virtually all my energy to the study of computer graphics because graphics is one of the most important media of information as well as one of the fastest developing and most lively branch of computer science as a whole. It has extremely wide prospect of application. The course that I liked most was Fundamentals of Data Structure in Computer because it made me realize that a good algorithm could substantially conserve the cost of resources and reduce both the time complexity and the space complexity. This factor has encouraged researchers to undertake continued exploration and improvement of algorithms. The thesis on Three-Dimensional Image Reconstruction that I am preparing is designed to improve conventional algorithm.

At present, I am involved in a robot project being developed by ABB Company. The problem that our group face is how to transform the robot‘s visual information into data that can be stored and processed by the computer. In that part of project that I am in charge of, my work is to implement a more effective method for the texture mapping module. On one hand, some of the principles and methods in this project can be derived from 3-D reconstruction technology. On the other hand, I have found that many aspects in the development of the CAD/CAGD are far from mature. I hope that I can undertake further research in this area. I believe that I will be qualified for this research because I have received systematic trainings in mathematics, physics, logic, and computer programming. In addition, I have accumulated relatively abundant practical experience in actual experiment operations and developed my ability to conduct independent research.

The 3-D Reconstruction is an important subject within the general framework of computer graphics that has the widest application. Currently, its methodology comprises of two major categories: dynamic reconstruction and static reconstruction. In view of the limitations in terms of the size of the object processed and the cost of processing in dynamic reconstruction, I have put forward a new algorithm based on static reconstruction, that is, the algorithm embodied in the reconstruction of a convex singly-connected 3-dimensional object by means of 2-dimensional photos. Compared with conventional algorithm, this algorithm that I have designed saves more space, and is quicker in speed. The effect is especially salient in processing relatively large-sized real objects like a building, rockets, space shuttles, and mountains. It is conceivable that my approach of reconstructing 3-D information by utilizing the 2-D geometric and topological information of real objects will enjoy a very bright prospect of application.

Nevertheless, to translate my design concepts into reality so as to work out many problems in graphics will be impossible without more advanced levels of knowledge. Therefore, I apply for a high-level degree program in the University of --------------------------. It is my belief that the advanced educational system, stimulating academic environment, and creative ideas of research will combine to bring into full play my active thinking and solid academic foundation, ultimately leading to a fruitful career in the field.

My interest of research mainly lies in the three sub-areas of Computer Science & Engineering. Computer Graphics & Imaging Technology is my first choice. Apart from this field, I would also like to concentrate on two other fields related to computer science. Naturally, Network becomes my second choice. Network security is becoming an increasingly important issue in computer technology, but unfortunately the relevant technology has failed to reach high sophistication. There is much room for improvement and I see this as a possible area for me to achieve some sort of breakthrough in the future. I would also like to devote myself to Software Engineering. I have already established a relative solid foundation in this field as it is the strongest undergraduate program of CS Department of my university and I have already done a series of projects, both by myself and by group work. Such experience will also assist me in completing my degree programs satisfactorily.

My ultimate aim is to become professionally trained and return to China with the knowledge and expertise that I acquire from my studies abroad. By that time, I will be an expert on computer graphics to be engaged both in research and in teaching. I can solve sophisticated technical problems on one hand and impart my accumulated theoretical knowledge to others on the other. In this way, my life will be made rich and meaningful.

Yours sincerely,

Dear _,

Marketing experts like to classify people into different generation groups, believing that people of the same age share similar value and attitudes. I agree with those experts'' theory in that it emphasizes the connection between the circumstances of one's upbringing and one's later outlook on life. My personality, talents, values, even career choice have been profoundly influenced by my family life and upbringing in Taiwan.

My name is Peter Huang and I’ve grown up in Ten-Mou, a multicultural neighborhood in suburban Taipei. During the early years of my childhood, my parents exerted a profound influence over my development. Though neither of them was involved in business, by watching their integrity and hard work, I learned more about the true meaning of success than I would ever have in any classroom.

My father is an Air Force colonel. He joined the R.O.C Air Force at the age of 14, struggling to achieve his personal best as the supply division chief of the R.O.C. Air Force Academy. Unlike some officers in the military, who depended on family relationship and privilege to get promoted, my father gained his position by hard work and assiduity. He thus emphasized the importance of industriousness when it came to my education. When I was 10, I attended a speech contest. During the week before the contest, my father and I spent two hours a day together, organizing the lecture content, adjust my rhythm, and rehearsing. I was a shy, soft-spoken child, and found speaking in public difficult at first. But through my father's patient efforts and his believe in the rewards of hard work, I gradually became an excellent public speaker and won many of the contests that followed. As a result of the experiences such as this, I learned a very strong work ethic and emulated some of my father's best characteristics - perseverance and dedication.

These qualities served me well as I entered mandatory military service in Taiwan and faced many difficult situations. I once led a squad to enact the typhoon disaster relief action in Nan-tou. We had one week in which to salvage a factory that was half-buried in mud. As the squad commander, I not only supervised, but also participated in the demanding and seemly endless digging work. And each night, after an exhausting work when all other soldiers were asleep, I spent extra hours checking if there were sufficient supplies and making plans for the next day's relief action. When I finally laid down to sleep, I could not help but reflect on how much I had developed, as both a person and a leader, since that first speech contest.

My mother has a warm and kind personality, and has always reached out to the expatriates in our neighborhood. She organized a language exchange club with the American students in local colleges, hoping to increase understanding of Taiwanese and American cultures through the exchange of language. I took part in the club when I was still in elementary school. This childhood multi-cultural experience instilled in me an active personality and willingness to interact with people of different cultures. In particularly, it strengthened my interest in American and my desire to work and live there one day.

My mother’s emphasis on international exchange and cooperation has led me to work for the Fulbright Foundation in Taipei as a research assistant. This position allows me to interact with educational associations in the United States and to take part in international conferences. I once participated in a venture capital seminar in Hsin-Chu, working on the issue of graduate level technology management education with representatives of major high-tech companies and academic institutions. Last November, I represented the Foundation in an international Tele-conference in Taipei. The conference was conducted both in English and in Chinese and was hosted by the Prime of Ministry of Education. My work has also given me the opportunity to know and become friends with exceptional Fulbright scholars from the United States.

While my childhood years shaped my character, it was my high school and college years which led to my interest in business. 1988 was both a determining year to my career choices and a turning point in Taiwan's economy. As people familiar with Taiwan's modern economic history know, the exchange rate of the New Taiwan Dollar to U.S. Dollars moved from 40:1 to 25:1 in that year under the overwhelming pressure of American government. Thus meant that the traditional advantage of Taiwan's economy, low labor costs, was no longer our strength. People everywhere were talking about the future of Taiwan's economy. Out of a young man's passion, I wanted to contribute my talent and effort to my country. That was the time at which I made up my mind that someday, I will make Taiwan-made products famous world-widely, like those produced by IBM, Intel, or Microsoft.

This teenage naive patriotic dream transformed into an interest in business administration and economics after I graduated from Taipei First Senior High School. I focused my college study on manufacturing administration and economics. From four years of lectures, seminars, and in-factory study in the department of Industrial Engineering at National Formosa University, I acquired skills in quality insurance, manufacturing planning and control, and factory improvement and diagnostic methods. In my economic class, I learned how prices, preferences, and incomes affect people's demand of goods from the microeconomic. I also acquired knowledge of how various factors - government policies, currency exchange rate, and balance of international trade - affect a country's economics growth. My interest in business, however, is not limited to industrial engineering and economics. In my junior year, I also took 6 credits of accounting courses and learned the knowledge of basic accounting principles, financial statements, and managerial accounting. To acquire a more thorough understand of management information systems, I chose Alumni Association Database Management System for Department of Industrial Engineering as my graduate activity project. From each step of developing the database system, I learned solid skills in FoxPro programming and enterprise demand analysis.

I am thankful that my parents provided me with an environment that encouraged me to develop my personality and an intellect for which I am remembered. With a deeply-instilled work ethic, strong interpersonal skills, and a high level of motivation, I believe I will enrich the professional and social environment at your esteemed Buchman School and continue to grow as a expert in high-tech industry.

Yours sincerely,

Dear _,

For as long as I can remember it has been my fondest dream and my furthest goal to attend college. From the beginning, I knew it would be an uphill climb to gain admission into a prestigious university. I have worked long and hard to get good grades in order for me to attend a university. I was finally admitted to the University of California Riverside. If I graduate from college I will be the first in my family. But, lately I have realized that I cannot reach my dreams alone; I would need financial assistance. My father was laid off from his job four months ago and my mother is unemployed. We're barely able to make our housing payments, utility and insurance bills. And if that weren't enough school tuition has dramatically gone up. I also have two other brothers who have to attend a university, but my family can't afford it. I need assistance financially. By being a recipient of a scholarship from Riverside Community College I will be able to alleviate this need, and possibly be the first member in my family to graduate from college

Through much research and self-analysis I have decided that I would pursue a career in International Business. This field offers competitive salary to college grads, gives a chance to travel to different parts of the world, and is also a competitive field in today's continually globalizing economy, which has caused a demand for those with international expertise. After receiving my Bachelor's degree in Business Administration at the University of California Riverside, I plan to continue my education until I receive a Masters and Doctorate degree in International Marketing

I decided that a career in International Business is for me because I have traveled to many foreign countries throughout my life and have excelled in foreign languages. I have a solid background in the English and Spanish languages and I also know a little of Italian

Being Bolivian and living in the United States has given me an interesting, well rounded outlook on the world. I am a blend of two opposing lifestyles, and my thoughts, ideas, and actions reflect this blend. I have a thorough knowledge of the American and Spanish cultural lifestyles which I believe would be of an advantage to me when I pursue a career in international marketing. I am also in the process of gaining business knowledge and experience by working and running my parent's family shoe store. I take care of the bookkeeping, retail sales, and the ordering and purchasing of merchandise. But with the recent economic downturn it has been very difficult to maintain the business in a profit gain. Although our business is not doing well it is giving me a chance to see if I am capable of handling a business during a challenging situation by using a powerful business strategy: consumer focused marketing

Therefore, my ultimate career aspiration is to become a successful executive in an international company playing a leadership role in customer focused marketing. As an international businesswoman I would be employed by a specific company, one in which would be in the need for an individual with foreign language and business skills. Chances are I would frequently travel between countries, and conduct business with officials of the foreign country in which we are doing business

I would need to possess a well-rounded business knowledge that includes expertise in finance, marketing, and personnel management. I hope to gain this knowledge by studying at a University. Also, while still attending classes at the University, I hope to study abroad for a semester, in the process immersing myself in another culture, and deepening my personal and academic understanding of International Business

After studying abroad and receiving my degree, I would like to volunteer to work for a non-profit organization. Then after gaining business knowledge and most importantly business experience, I will enter the exciting international corporate world. In the long-run, I envision for myself a career straddling the highest levels of international business as a corporate leader. I am confident that my determination, perseverance and tenacity will lead me to the successful achievement of this personal vision.

Yours sincerely,

Dear -,

What would life be without technology? In this world that we live in it isimpossible to be fully efficient in a business society without having graspknowledge of information and communications technology. Information technologyever changing in our business society and I desire to be a part of this changingprocess. Through out years of studying Information Technology I have grown tolike the subject. Although, part of the course is somewhat demanding, thefurther involvement in the course is what has drawn me most to the course. Myutmost belief is that a combination of both courses would enlighten and engageme through out my degree course. In my years of studying information andcommunication technology I have used softwares like Macromedia Flash andMacromedia Dreamweaver to create websites and also the use of Microsoft Accessto arrange data bases for businesses as my coursework. Both Business andInformation and Communications Technology are subjects I am totally in love withand testimony to this fact is the AS Award for Information and CommunicationsTechnology I received in the recent past. I have also e-celled greatly inBusiness Studies both in GCSE level and AS level and hope to e-cel further inyears to come at your university. The world has had a rapid grown in globalmarkets through automation and e-commerce and this can be linked withInformation Technology and the web with the ultimate goal of being moreefficient in the rapidly growing global market. All these have provided me withinspiration to be involved in a world where new technology is beingdeveloped.

On a lighter note, I work in my school as a lunch time supervisor everylunch time for the past two years. This job has taught me what commitment, hardwork and time management is all about as I have managed to blend both myacademics and my job together and still be prompt in submitting in work andpreparing for e-ams and e-celling in them. I thrive in situations where I haveto work under pressure as it makes me alert and spurs me in doing even greaterthings. My further sense of responsibility comes from my post as beenSanderson's events captain for my school. This has given me the opportunity tobe in control and create events for the house as well as feel as part of ateam.

Other aspects of life that interests me out of school are charitable works.I have seen first hand, the misfortune of people being born into the povertytrap and the human rights violations that ordinary people like us have to facebecause of the misfortune of being born into one of the poorest countries andcontinents on earth. This has made me more aware than other teenagers of theless privileged and handicapped in every society I live and always eager torender my help and support in any way I can. This has led me to volunteer at theLittle Monkey's Toddler group in Shaftesbury every week. In addition to thatevery Friday, I go to a neighbouring disabled children's primary school to helpthe teachers out with their sporting activities. Furthermore I am a member ofthe global student forum in which our aim is to see changes in our society byusing our initiative to make the world a better place.

Sometimes I see my self at the top floor of a business institution lookingdown at the works of my hands and I feel a sense of achievement, fulfilment, accomplishment and triumph all at the same time. In faith, this dream would becompleted through hard work and commitment inside an Information technology andbusiness degree for the ne-t four years. A wise man once told me that there arethree types of people in this life, those that make it happen, those that watchit happen and those that ask: what happened? My aim is to be in the group ofthose who make it happen. I hope to be an asset to your university bothacademically and socially.

Yours sincerely,

Dear _,

Computing and its applications have always fascinated me and for this reason I have found my A-level courses extremely interesting. This also has maintained my long-term interest in computer-related careers. I have studied mathematics, physics and computing to A-level and also during the first year at Hills Road Sixth Form College I re-took my GCSE English.

Last year and this year I have been improving my self-learning, and developing many skills with the help of the key skills qualifications and A-level General Studies. My sincerest desire is to become a computer scientist. Specifically, I am interested in exploring how problems can be modeled and solved using artificial intelligence.

I also want to learn about human cognition and machine intelligence. I have been studying the online debate over whether machines will ever become intelligent given the current course of research and reading about such issues as whether a machine can acquire common sense (as discussed in Hubert Dreyfus's book “What Computers Still Can't Do”). I have been exploring many different areas within the domain of artificial intelligence (such as neural networks, genetic algorithms, and natural language processing). The bottom line is that I want to be a part of this exciting field.

Over the summer I traveled to Russia, and thoroughly enjoyed exploring a very different part of the world. My other interests include current affairs and sports, such as football, tennis and general fitness. Ever since the start of sixth form I have been a successful member of the college football team. I have played basketball as an enrichment activity because it was a new sport to me at the beginning of sixth form. I also participated in a 5-a-side indoor football tournament at the college. In addition to pursuing my academic studies I would like to continue some of these sports at university.

Yours sincerely,

Dear _,

Creative activities have always drawn my attention, from a young age I would draw, colour, cut and create! I’m still very much like this, I find myself losing track of time and working into the small hours. I enjoy the challenges which design presents and communicating my ideas as solutions.Being involved in extreme sports when I was younger helped to feed my creative cravings, it gave me a focus and allowed me to express myself freely. I wanted to represent these hobbies, that’s when I decided to design t-shirts that would display a connection with my friends and our common interests.

Prior to applying to study illustration, I have worked in job roles where I have learnt valuable skills. The majority of my experience being within the retail industry. I have learnt the values of team work, meeting deadlines, being pro active and working to ones own iniative. Working for high fashion retailers has also allowed me to keep my creative edge. I have personally made displays, dressed windows and mannequins, remerchandised walls, even down to placing fixtures requires industry knowledge and creativeness. It was at this point I realised I would really enjoy working within a more creative industry.

In my free time I enjoy playing guitar, writing music, discovering new bands, attending gigs, reading, photography, watching films and playing chess. A big desire of mine is to travel, I believe it is an important part of life. I know the places I have visited so far have left an impression on me, I am always keen to discover and explore. Without visiting new places and meeting different people, I would not have as much awareness of the world, I view this as an essential part of design. I also consider design to be a hobby which I am passionate about and enjoy thoroughly. It seems natural for me to take this to the next level as I see design being more than just a hobby.

Studying at degree level will give me the opportunity to respond to briefs, rather than self-initiating my work. Though more importantly I will also be given the opportunity to work with other designers, be it my tutors or fellow students. Working in a creative atmosphere amongst others who are able to give critique and advice, will be the most valuable area to me. I would also like to use university as a stepping-stone to gain work, through exhibitions, opportunities within the university and through industry links.

Some of my favourite artists would include David Shrigley for his bazaar humour, Banksy for his satire and directness and Frank Sheppard Fairey for his ‘phenomenology’ experiment.

Illustration has recently become a bit of an obsession to me and I can’t remember a day when I wasn’t drawing or doodling an idea. There’s something satisfying about spending hours rendering an idea, only to realise something is slightly out of place and deciding to spend a night in perfecting it.

Yours sincerely,

1.全面了解和掌握学校的情况,包括历史、学费、学制、专业、师资配备、教学设施、学术地位、学生人数等,要特别注意该校国际学生有多少,其中有多少中国学生在读。此外,还要落实该学校颁发的文凭是否受到我国的承认;

2.该学校的住宿、交通、医疗保险情况如何;

3.该学校在中国是否有授权代理招生的留学中介公司;

4.留学签证情况;

5.本专业在该国的就业情况;

一般课程申请所必备的文件有:学历和成绩单,学历毕业证书,填写完整的学校申请表格,照片,财力证明,报名费;
