The presentation of environmental problems in the media was what initially sparked my interest in environmental studies. In school, I have always enjoyed geography and natural sciences, which led me to take the Geography Concours General, a particularly challenging exercise. I pursued my interest in taking this study further by selecting books from the recommended reading lists for courses on the environment, published on university websites. I particularly enjoyed Flannery's comprehensive account on global warming in 'The Weather Makers' as well as 'Heat, how we can stop the planet burning' by Monbiot for its daring propositions on how to cut carbon emissions. 'The Politics of the Environment: Ideas, Activism, Policy' by Neil Carter proved to be an excellent complement.

For an extended project, a requirement of the OIB, I worked in a group exploring carbon capture and storage as a solution for reducing carbon emissions. Researching such a controversial matter taught me to be patient and careful when selecting my sources. It also led me to contact Dr Ferey of the Lavoisier Institute in Versailles, a leading specialist in the field of microporous solids whose work I had first learned of in 'Science et Vie', one of the periodicals I receive regularly. Interviewing him was a particularly stimulating experience. More than this, our conversation made it clear that his team's discoveries can only find concrete uses through the type of approach I wish to study, combining sciences with knowledge of economic, social and political factors.

To understand what working on environmental problems is really like, I devoted three weeks of my summer holiday to a work experience placement at the French Ministry of Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development and the Sea. I was asked to write a synthesis and analysis of an European Commission report, concerning the implementation of water monitoring programmes throughout the European Union. This job helped me to develop my ability to extract the essential information out of extensive administrative documents and law texts and to manage my time carefully. I also learnt about the complex management of natural resources and became very interested in methods used in the evaluation of the ecological status of different water bodies. My work ended with an oral presentation, a task which led me to apply the presentation skills taught at school in front of a professional audience. I enjoyed this exercise for its challenging aspect and the positive feedback I received, which gave me enormous satisfaction. Daily discussions with my mentor, on subjects as various as the importance of a river's hydromorphology to aquatic life, the intricate workings of administration and our shared passion for cinema provided me with a more human and social experience of the workplace.

In addition to my academic interests, I also have a part-time job teaching English to younger students. I find this to be a challenging but rewarding task, which has helped me develop my ability to explain things in a clear fashion. I am also a member of my school's football team and play tennis on weekends.

I think that living in Shanghai and travelling throughout Asia with my parents has made me a more open-minded individual. Having been taught in a bilingual and bicultural school, I have learned to approach problems from different perspectives and thus reach a more objective overview. Hence, I am convinced that pursuing my studies in the UK, with its diverse population and internationally recognised universities, is the next logical step in my intercultural education and an excellent investment for my future professional career in the environmental sector.

A student of the Peking University’s inaugural program of advertising, I am writing in support of my application for acceptance into your graduate program of communication studies. With my solid education and my professional experience that is as colorful as it is rare, I believe that, with your seasoned guidance, I can build upon my strong background, for a pioneering career in China’s booming advertising industry.

At Peking University, dubbed the Harvard of China by President Clinton on his recent trip to Chins, I have been a student star on campus due to my outstanding academic performances. When I entered into this university in 1995, I already stood out among my crop of freshmen, having won a total of scores in the 1995 National College Entrance Examinations that was the fifth highest in Beijing. A fervent fan of my chosen subject of studies, I have proved myself as much of an intellectual wizard in higher learning as I was in grade school, as demonstrated by my grades, which placed me at the very top in my class of 23. My GPA in the first three years is 89.5, a rarely seen high grade in PKU. My GPA for core courses is over 90, far higher than that of my fellow students. I was the only one who received 100, the full mark, in two theoretical courses, the advanced mathematics and appreciation of fine arts. In practical courses like computer design, my grades were also high, sometimes as high as 96. In recognition of such stellar performances, I have been named the top student of the department and granted Academic Excellence Scholarships for three consecutive years. But I was no bookworm. To broaden my vision and enrich my knowledge, I also chose electives in such fields as Russian Literature and Chinese History. Being a Weekly News broadcaster, I regularly faced tens of thousands of audience, which greatly increased my confidence. I learnt to think independently and cooperate wit others when doing the series reports “PKU students’ life”, a program which was mainly about student recipients of prizes in national and international contests. Unlike most other students, I have never stopped working while in school. From September 1997 on, I have been working as a research assistant in CCTV’s Qiantu Advertising Company, the sixth biggest in China. My responsibility is to establish a market database. Difficult as it was, I have handled it without a glitch. I have also done part-time work helping to promote the President Food Corporation and served as a research assistant in the S & D Research Agency, a consulting firm specialized in conducting market surveys for multinationals in China.

With special skills in Chinese calligraphy, I taught calligraphy in the China Children’s Center, the best of its kind in China. My students, mostly six to twelve years old, had difficulties in understanding the aesthetics inherent Chinese calligraphy. To help them, I taught them Chinese poems and ancient characters instead of confining myself to only calligraphy. The approach turned out to be very effective, and their skills improved dramatically. In these and other similar experiences, I gained skills of interpersonal communication, particularly in terms of how to understand other people’s problems and how to help them out.

It is in my working experience that I first developed the desire to pursue advanced studies in a quality graduate program in the United States. As an intern with the Dentsu Young & Rubicam Advertising Corporation, one of the world’s largest communications groups, I now witness firsthand the dramatic social and economic changes engendered by the proliferation of digital technologies and increasing corporate globalization. These changes have created the highly sophisticated information society. Trying daily to develop wordings that could catch people’s attention in this complex society, I have acquired a heightened sense of urgency about improving attention in this complex society, I have acquired a heightened sense of urgency about improving China’s advertising industry at both theoretical and practical levels. This application is being made with a sense of mission. As an undergraduate, I have learned the basics of advertising, and I would be promising in China as a graduate from one of the country’s best universities. With a booming advertising industry in China, I will surely secure a well-paying job. But I cannot be satisfied unless I can help my country as much I help myself. For that, I wish to enhance my capabilities by pursuing graduate studies in such fields as mass communication, communication studies or media studies at a university in North America, where these genres of studies are much more developed than in China. Whatever program I get in, I would like my studies to be focused on the theories of and practices in advertising. If you find me qualified for advanced studies in areas other than those I have mentioned, I would greatly appreciate it if you could let me know any suggestions that you may have.

The University of Hawaii is well known for its unique position as a bridge between east and west. It is well known for its excellence in the communication field, complete with an accomplished faculty and modern research resources. With students from various nations, it provides its students with a good chance to learn from different cultures. It is an ideal place for communication studies. If I am accepted, I believe I can make quick progress in communication studies in general, and in advertising in particular.

护照、机票、在留资格认定证明书、入学许可书、资格外活动申请书一定要随身携带!

护照建议彩色复印几份，以防在日本丢失后无法补办。

现金建议随身携带20~30万日元即可，最多不得超过55万。人民币也带上500~1000元左右，以防突发情况回国时没时间换。

信用卡、储蓄卡可以带一张家里人的附属卡，平时刷卡，家里直接还人民币，省去很多汇款的手续费。储蓄卡建议办理中国银行的，在日本网点很多。最近光大和华夏也很有人气，取款手续费低，可以办一张。

资格外活动许可申请表。很多语言学校将资格外活动许可和在留卡一起发放，同学们一定不要忘了填写好，在过关的时候交给检察官，这样你才有资格在日本打工!

人名章、小两寸照片。人名章一般是直径1~1.5cm的圆章，繁体刻上自己的全名，记住一定要是圆章，材质不能是胶皮的!小两寸照片可带可不带，在日本照两寸照是自带美颜的，很暖很贴心啦!

打工时间：对于在日本的大学院读本科和在研究生院读书的正规生，一周的打工时间在28个小时以内，在假期各个学校规定的打工时间是一天8小时以内。日本的旁听生和听讲生打工的时间在14小时以内每周，在寒假和暑假等学校规定的休假期内的打工时间是一天8个小时以内，专门学校的学生和就业生一天的打工时间是4小时以内。

Those were just a few of the thoughts that began circulating through my seven- year old mind. I was born in upstate New York and raised in Maryland, yet of Lebanese origin. Out of nowhere, I learned that I would soon have to leave my friends and the only place I had ever known existed; it turned my world upside down. I was just like any other seven-year old girl; obsessed with Barbies, playing dress-up with my mother''s clothes and jauntily leading a carefree life. I was a very curious young child, always feeling the need to know something about everything. I was outgoing and sometimes a bit obnoxious, but then again who wasn''t at the age of seven? Soon after I learned of our move to Saudi Arabia, everything changed.

I arrived in Saudi Arabia and experienced extreme culture shock. I learned that in public, women have to be covered from head to toe by wearing what the Saudis call an abaya, which is a black cloak or gown that completely covers the female body. Women are not allowed to drive, work, or closely interact with men, and the weather is unbearably hot 11 months a year. The people spoke a language unfathomable to me and I was on the verge of a breakdown. In this strange, new country, I felt like a completely different person. I knew absolutely no one. I went from being a happy, outgoing little girl to a girl with no friends and no knowledge of anything around her, which of course was a completely alien experience for me. What could Saudi Arabia possibly offer me? Was I ever going to learn to tolerate the vastly contrasting culture and lifestyle? The moment I saw the endless cascading mounds of sand and barren earth, I was convinced that there was no way I was ever going to make friends with people who were at home in this desolate and backwards country, who nonetheless spoke a language completely foreign to me. I remember crying everyday, begging my parents to take me back home; a place where I was perfectly happy with everything and never complained. Soon enough however, I was placed in an American school in the middle of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Over the years, I met people who had also just moved from their countries and we all turned to each other to share our thoughts and experiences in our new home. Up until the ninth grade, I remained a shy and reserved individual, as there wasn''t much for a young girl to do in a strict and religious country like Saudi Arabia; or so I thought. It was not until my freshman year that I broke out of my tiny, introverted bubble and began taking an active role in my school surroundings. I began getting myself involved in competitive school team sports such as basketball and soccer; went on an international study trip with the school to Switzerland and traveled around the kingdom as a member of Saudi Arabia''s All-Kingdom Band playing the trombone with proud fluency. I even managed to acquire the country''s native language, Arabic, and began to learn more about my religion - Islam. I soon established friendships with individuals from various countries such as Canada, Egypt, Jordan, United States of America, South Africa, Brazil and Pakistan, just to name a few. The people helped me adjust to the country, despite its desert-like climate and strict rules. Over time, we shared aspects of our cultures and traditions, in addition to realizing that we all have our similarities and differences. We developed a profound tolerance and respect for the country we were currently living in. I soon realized that the relationships I had developed in this country were the friendships that I would value and cherish the most in the future. All of us being foreigners in Saudi Arabia led us to come closer together and to confide in one another. I was slowly becoming my younger self again; outgoing, active and most importantly, happy. Looking back at my experience in Saudi Arabia, I have become aware of what the country has offered me and I find myself taking back the feelings of resentment that I had towards my parents for moving to this country, as well as the harsh feelings I first developed towards the country itself.

After living in Saudi Arabia for approximately eleven years, I am happy to say that I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience in the country, and have realized that during my years in Saudi Arabia, I have had a unique opportunity to live overseas and meet people from different backgrounds, religions, and cultures. As a guest in the country, I have learned that Saudi Arabia has offered me the opportunity to experience a culture that is different from my own in many ways, and this opportunity has allowed me to be open and to accept and tolerate different perspectives, traditions and beliefs. My exposure to these different nationalities in Saudi Arabia has built on my foundations of cultural awareness, rather than laying the cornerstone for it. 韩国研究生留学申请条件

1、大学毕业，获得毕业证、学位证(或大学大四在读);

2、大学成绩的平均绩点在2.5以上或主课平均分75分以上，申请SKY学校建议绩点在3.0以上或主课平均分80分以上;

3、自考或成考本科毕业，获得毕业证，同时具备学士学位，但是自考成考学历申请研究生时有学校限制。

As I involved myself into politics,I realized that it is all-embracive-wielding its way over social and economic life-it is the omnipotent of Pakistan.It can mobilize public opinion,gear up propaganda machinery,make or repeal laws and what not.Backed up by public opinion,supported by the majority of the legislators,armed with the means to keep the people in a state of ignorance,political power crosses the limits of dictatorial powers.Political power,like the most powerful intoxicant,makes the persons in power to forget social ethics,political morality and obligations.

Most of the learned youth in this country consider Politics to be a refuge for the scoundrels and this derogatory remark may be true if we look at the deceptive and degenerated type of politicians indulging in a dirty game.All these political parties are votaries of democracy,but the way they conduct themselves inside their own parties is nothing but senseless authoritarianism.Therefore a very few students choose to pursue Politics as a profession,but what they don't realize is that if we don't take a stand the system can never be changed.Thus,I want to study Politics so I can come back to my country and contribute what little I can do for my homeland and its people.If I can inspire even a single person,it would be worth it.The world today is growing global.We are now not only to think of our own nation but as and when we think of it,we have to keep the international perception in mind;consequently,I chose Politics with International Relations as one of my courses.

Studying in UK will breed a sense of individuality and self reliance.I would be able to interact with people from everywhere and get to know about their culture.This would not only open new horizons for me,but would also clear some preconceived notions one has about the other.I have always been an active participant of debates.I have participated in 3 Model UN conferences out of which I was awarded with the Best Delegate award in two. I was also one of the two students to be selected from my school to participate in the English Speaking Union '08.Moreover, I've taken part in Parliamentary style debates too.Therefore I believe I can communicate effectively in public and language will not be a barrier in my education.Furthermore, I have worked as an internee at Al-Shifa Eye Hospital for a month in summers.Here I learnt how to deal with patients,use the Auto Ref, handle files and punctuality.We also campaigned to a remote area near Murree where we helped the doctors in examining the patients free of cost.Another experience which taught me a lot was when me and my fellow colleagues volunteered to paint walls for the SOS Children's Village.In addition,I worked with SUNGI (NGO) where a group of 5 of us had to organize an event to pay tribute to 1000 Women for the Nobel Peace Prize.

I enjoy Literature,especially the works of Shakespeare,Tennessee Williams,Thomas Hardy and Andrew Marvell.I'd be delighted to study in a challenging atmosphere where I can focus on my studies.I commit to my work and my ability to think out of the box,keenness for Politics and my perception of things,I understand,gives me an edge over others.I believe in myself,and if provided with an opportunity,I'd make the university proud.
