I have always enjoyed studying Maths, Physics and Chemistry, and I would like the opportunity to continue this study. Chemical Engineering appeals to me because of the challenges involved in the application of scientific theory to practical, real world problems such as how to deal with nuclear waste. I particularly look forward to studying fluid dynamics as I was introduced to this during the Engineering Education Scheme (EES). I found both of these experiences very challenging, as we were given only limited time so we had to prioritise our tasks and carefully plan our work.This year a fellow student and I were awarded ￡500 by the European Scholarship Prize to fund a visit to Prague to do research for our A-level History coursework. I gained an understanding of the city’s culture and history and further developed my independence. During the summer I represented my school on a Connexions review of a government white paper on 14-19 education. I gained an insight into the government’s proposals and learned a lot about working with different groups of people. Last year I was part of the editorial team for the school magazine. I wrote a number of articles and I was responsible for ensuring that staff contributions were ready for the deadline. I had been the evening manager there for nearly two years while attending college, and knew that the restaurant was struggling. For several years, high overhead costs and poor marketing had brought revenue to a minimum. I saw the position as an intriguing challenge; I knew I could dramatically increase the restaurant’ s profitability. Immediately after accepting the position in July of 1995,I addressed the most significant problem: high overhead from over staffing, food waste, and unnecessary purchases of supplies. Being a student of the International Baccalaureate program, I got a lot of exposure to laboratory work which I thoroughly enjoyed. The International Baccalaureate encourages its students to question knowledge and test theories for themselves, an approach which suited me perfectly. The interdisciplinary approach of the program to science helped me broaden my perspective of the scope of research and crystallised my decision to study a course in molecular biochemistry. 1.美国院校偏好来自一些国内顶尖大学出生的申请者，由于他们去美国大学后表现大多都很优秀，因而美国学校就会比较注重招这些学生。

当然申请者专业背景的相关性与申请难易程度也有着紧密的联系。在申请研究生时，首先要考虑的是自己的研究方向与申请方向是否匹配，其次与套磁教授的研究方向是否相关。所以在选校以及套磁教授的选择时，最注重的还是专业匹配度。

2.申请者的硬件水平GPA、GT成绩和奖学金等学术情况就成为了较直观的反映。一般来说，专业GPA的影响力高于综合GPA，本科阶段的GPA比研究生阶段的GPA更具影响力。

专业前50的学校的研究生院通常要求：GPA起码要3.5(B+)以上;GREV+Q>325，部分学校的物理系要求PhysicalSub成绩，对于GREsub学校更加注重Percentage而不单是分数;IBT>100。

其后的学校通常要求：GPA>3.0(B)，但是录取学生的平均GPA一般也在3.3(B+)左右;GREV+Q>315以上;IBT>90，但是从近几年的竞争情况看，IBT还是尽量要考到90以上才能在激烈的竞争中不容易被轻易挤掉，而且也有更多希望拿Assistantship奖学金，毕竟国际学生拿Fellowship的机会很少。

3.申请者的论文、研究经历和工作经历方面。研究经历可以说是申请PhD必需的，而且工作/实习经历在美国学校看来也是丰富阅历、帮助申请者明确了发展方向的重要经历。而专业论文则是研究经历中的内容和专业研究水平的具体表现，比简历中的简要描述更有说服力。

一、填写好入学申请表( Application Form )

一、参加考试

1、不同地区的生活费用标准

去美国留学生活一般而言，可以把美国城市按照生活指数(不包括买车、外出旅行、电话和娱乐等额外消费)分为四级：

1级指美国特大城市，如旧金山、纽约、费城、洛杉矶、波士顿、芝加哥、华盛顿等，其美国留学费用生活费为1000-2000美元/月;

在超市买菜，回家做。吃的比较好，牛奶鸡蛋是有机的，鸡鸭鱼肉虾，水果饮料不断，有时候自己在家做蛋糕。在吃上算是比较费的，其实省一点两个人200元就够了，夏天要来了，可以少吃一些肉了。呵呵，水果一般买提子葡萄柚香蕉芒果什么的。

外出用餐：50元

一个月一次吧，偶尔吃几次外面的快餐，如果去正规饭馆，一次大约35元。

上网费：15元，和老外合用的，如果单独的话大约30元。速度快的很，看视频和在国内一样的速度。

手机费：30元一人一个手机，打国内也可以，基本上用不完

洗衣服：10元投币的洗衣机

理发：20元

这个可以有，觉得没必要太省，形象也很重要。

购物：50元

这个不是每个月都买，平均下来吧，只少不多。
