Dear _,

A degree in marketing is something which interests me; it's exciting and stimulating and will provide me with the key requirements to begin a successful career in the field. The marketing profession requires individuals with good interpersonal skills, who are dedicated, quick thinking, robust, diplomatic, articulate and have a competitive flare, all of which are skills and attributes that I recognise in myself

Marketing appeals to me because it is arguably the most invigorating and vital department of any business with a responsibility to initiate new challenges and opportunities

My experience in the workplace and in non academic activities has helped me develop a strong interest in working in the corporate world

In _ I was the youngest successful applicant to become a member of the Youth Council for the Millennium Dome. For two summers I did work experience at my local MP's Westminster office. My main duty was researching specific topics and producing reports on my findings, my work was used in parliamentary reports on issues such as teenage pregnancy and drug abuse in foreign countries. My first job was as a waitress at a local restaurant and I am currently working for Sainsbury's. In the past year one of my extra curricular commitments has been volunteer work as a classroom assistant at a local primary school. This year I have also been given the position of form prefect, which means I provide additional support to a form group and to members of staff

Through these experiences I have been able to discover, develop and demonstrate skills which are central to succeeding in marketing, including both oral and written communication, creativity, working to deadlines, perseverance, dedication and adaptability. I have also learnt the importance of a good client-employee relationship and how personal integrity is a fundamental requirement for any successful business or organisation

Sports has always been a keen interest of mine, it has given me an understanding how a team of people can work effectively together towards a common goal. For the last two years my house elected me the Head of my House netball team. This experience has helped me again develop skills including organisation and leadership. It has also given me the opportunity to motivate others to succeed. In school I am a trained peer listener, which means I am trained to listen to younger students problems and encourage them to think through a solution for themselves. I have spent my Sixth Form years at a boarding school which has taught me how a group of people must live and function closely together with respect, maturity and co-operation

At my previous school I covered the portfolio work for an intermediate level GNVQ in leisure and tourism and a foundation level GNVQ in health and social care. Currently I am an enthusiastic member of the Debating Society and Reading Group at school

Next summer I am going to continue to develop my knowledge and experience of the commercial workplace through an internship at a public affairs firm. This will undoubtedly give me a better grounding in the marketing and PR world, and enable me to progress to university with first-hand knowledge and experience which will be invaluable for a degree in Marketing.

Yours sincerely,

Dear _,

A fourth-year student grounded solidly in the basics of computer science, I am writing in pursuit of graduate studies that I hope can help me acquire cutting-edge expertise in software programming in general and parallel processing in particular.

Intrigued by the power of the computer since high school, I have been trying to stay on top of the computer science by concentrating my undergraduate studies on those subjects that underpin the discipline, particularly mathematics and electronics. To build up my solid knowledge in these subjects, I have taken virtually all the related courses that the university has had to offer. These courses include Algorithm & Data Structure, Mathematical Modeling, Network Theory, Digital Circuit, Discrete Mathematics, and Electric Circuit. With a sophisticated understanding in these areas, I have been well positioned to appreciate the basic theories of computer science and their applications to software development.

Aided by the firm command of the basics, I have found it not only easy but also exciting to study the various subjects covered by my major. As most of my classmates, I took a variety of courses ranging from AI to Computer Network, from AI Programming to Knowledge Engineering, from Pattern Recognition to Software Engineering, and from Database Design to Programming Language Design. But I distinguished myself by my academic record, which places me as one of the very top students in my class. My grades in these course never went below A or B. I have also stood out as one of the few who have taught themselves Real Time System and Computer Graphics.

Armed with sound training in the basic theories and applied technologies, I have been able to move on into deeper and wider areas of computer science. Early in my university life, I began to understand that the modern computer's base, the Turing machine, was reaching its limits in AI. Gradually, I have narrowed down my research interest to parallel & distributive computing, which I understand can significantly boost the performance of personal computers by giving them some of the functions of mainframe computers.

Of all the areas of computer science, parallel processing fascinates me the most. The term first came to me when I read the book Computer Organization & Design: the Hardware/Software Interface as part of my Computer Architecture course. By teaching me how the performance of computers can be improved through pipelining and parallel processing, the book reshaped my thinking in computer science.

My lab experience deepened my understanding of parallel processing. In my third year, I worked on a GIFT project with Dr. Komatsu, chief researcher of IBM Tokyo Research Laboratory and Dr. Koseki, one of Dr. Komatsu's colleagues. The project was to introduce the architecture supports that can allow compilers to derive more parallelism from programs. These architecture supports include three designs, a conditional execution mechanism to execute instructions without normal conditional jump instructions, speculative execution mechanism, and a dynamic memory disambiguation mechanism to execute memory access instructions simultaneously.

As undergraduate students seldom get to be involved in actual research, I took full advantage of the opportunity of working in the lab. I particularly enjoyed the seminars held twice a week as part of the lab work. At these seminars, I engaged in in-depth discussions with Master's students under Dr. Komatsu's seasoned guidance. The lab experience is adding weight and insights to my graduation paper An Improvement of Software pipelining using Loop Transformations. In this paper, I will introduce a translation algorithm using loop interchange and loop skewing. This algorithm can minimize the initiation interval of loop nest to improve the performance of software pipelining.

Through my lab experience and other research, I have developed a long-term professional objective: the advancement of the parallel processing technology. While I have strong faith in this technology, I also know its limitations as it is today. Some sequential algorithms can't be easily translated into fast parallel algorithms and most compilers can only distribute works on one platform. Another unsettled problem is that programming parallel computers is now still a manual work. But even the modern language (like Java, C++) can do some automatic translation work. If a compiler can be developed to translate and distribute work into different platforms, personal computers will be able to work like mainframe computers at a fraction of the mainframes' costs. This will make it possible to connect all the computers in the world and speed up all the processes.

To help take the parallel processing technology beyond what is capable of today, I have to undertake more advanced studies. This, I believe, can only be accomplished in a quality graduate program like yours. I plan to pursue a master's degree with a concentration on paralleling and distributing compilers, operating systems or computer networks, a combination thereof. With the training that goes into such an advanced degree, I think I will be able to take great strides towards fulfilling my professional objective. When I do, I think I will be standing on the cutting-edge of the computer science.

Dear _,

When I considered what should be the next step in my development it was out of the question that I would go for a degree at University. At school I proved to be a successful quick-learner in every subject, yet there were two circumstances that influenced most strongly my final decision in which area to expand my knowledge. Those were my background and experience gained during my school years.

The ever-changing world of business is what I witness every day on the streets and at school, it is an important background for whatever media - radio, television etc. Realizing its influence over world matters of utmost importanceas well as such of personal preferences, it is impossible not to acknowledge its dynamic nature. Moreover, all business areas under go constant development which is to make them better and more successful. But apart from indirectly being a part of the system, it is a whole new world when you are directly involved in it. For the last five years I had the chance to take an active part in the family business thus gained first-hand experience of the business world. All of the above has led me to realizing that no matter what role you want to play in the business world it is vital to know the basic principles as well as being up-to-date. That is why at this point of my personal development I strongly aspire to make my next step as an International Finance and Trade student at the International University College. I am eager to obtain the academic knowledge that will not only explain in theory my experience of many years, but will also introduce me to things I have not known and experienced before.

From my earliest childhood I had been presented the opportunity to oversee the development of a small business in the dynamic atmosphere of world economics. At the beginning I would only help my parents mind the store. But through the years as I advanced academically I developed a deeper understanding of the matter and proved greater efficiency. In the competitive and challenging age, as it is today, it is of great importance to be as effective as possible. In the light of this, the family business instilled some great values in me. Chief among them was the value of hard work. It was a matter of course that every member of the family must give the best he can for the general welfare. I made no exception. Thus I experienced both the inner, rough side of the business, starting from things like goods supplying, through understanding of cash flow, contracts and conditions, price setting and costs to rivalry and plots, and the outer side of which the general public is aware – marketing, sales consulting, professional service and maintaining an optimistic and productive climate. I learned a great amount of valuable skills such as scrutinizing complex situations and problem solving, managing multiple assignments, flexibility when setting a priority as to streamline the work process, judicious attitude when making bargains, training and motivating employees to do better than they thought they could. Being a loyal and devoted worker is probably the most important premise for success. And it is not just a question of business, but rather one concerning a person’s attitude of mind. I know what I am capable of and always try to do better wherefore mediocrity terrifies me. In my opinion there is no excuse for a lazy mind. I remember reading a thing Jacques Cousteau once said that perfectly fits here. It sounds like this: “When one man, for whatever reason, has the opportunity to lead an extraordinary life, he has no right to keep it to himself”. I cannot agree more with him.

As far as education is concerned, it has been of great value to me in view of broadening my conception of the world. The diversity of classes taught at school helped me realize and develop my intrinsic talents, shaped my personality and gave me a clear idea of the best ways to fulfill my potential. I was mostly drawn to mathematics because of the logical and strategic look over things it teaches. From it I learned to see the big picture as well as being in charge of every little detail. I especially enjoyed the English and German language classes where the knowledge of fluency seemed to come naturally to me. Further on, I got the chance to take part in a school international project called “Media – a meeting point for everyone in Europe”. Due to my Ukrainian-Bulgarian origin I found no difficulty in building confidence in interacting with people from different national backgrounds. Because of the focus of the project on the basic ways in which media communicates with people this experience added to my awareness of the manipulation and application of technology. It allowed me to develop an ability to collect and analyze data in order to distill the essence and present it clearly and concisely. Through this project I became conscious of some of the core principles of marketing, namely flexibility and thinking outside of the box.

Books have made a huge impact on my future goals. I have always been interested in studying biographies of famous people as to analyze their way of thinking and strategies they use in real-life situations. Through reading besides getting to know Plato, Nietzsche, Jung and their philosophies, I met such figures as Donald Trump and Robert Kiyosaki who deeply influenced my perception of the nature of money and of the world as a whole. From these two mentors I learned some successful principles which have lasted over hundreds of years, I learned what a lifestyle really means as well as what it is worth.

All of the above stand behind my strong aspiration to fulfill my potential. I want to acquire the academic knowledge needed in order to hold privilege jobs and top positions in the future and be able to make the best decisions in the business world. I am ready to take full advantage of the opportunities life presents and dedicated to do more, be more and give more and better my best every day. This is the way in which everyone will benefit.

Yours sincerely,

Dear _,

During the last three years I have thoroughly enjoyed studying Business Studies and Economics at school. My decision to study for a degree in management or business studies or Economics has been strengthened by my success in these subjects at GCSE and A Level. The intensity of the AS and A Level courses have required me to be self motivated and committed to my subjects to ensure that I achieve my full potential. Futhermore my committed nature has made me a very hard working and conscientious student. The skills I have gained from studying Business Studies include the ability to make decisions and apply appropriate strategies to certain situations, including methods of raising finance, motivation strategies and promotional techniques all of which contribute to the qualities required to be an effective manager.

Last year, I was a member of the School Stock Market team; we won the Liverpool Stock Market Challenge. Our score was the best nationally; we all won GBP 50 worth of shares from Marks & Spencer for our achievements. This has given me the confidence to be involved in decision-making and shown the importance of working as a team.

A further opportunity to work in a team was provided by my enrichment project, we decided to do a project on Unreal Tournament, an online shooting game. I was the team leader for our project and I sorted out, the rules, entry fee and time of the games. We managed to raise over GBP 30 for the School's Tricentenary Fund from the entrance fee. I enjoyed being the team leader, and gained experience in utilising the strengths of each member of the team effectively.

As a school prefect, I have many responsibilities, both during and after school. My duties include maintaining order in the library and ensuring students are not allowed onto the corridors at break and at lunch. I also enjoy doing bible readings during assemblies. Being involved in the voluntary work programme has provided an opportunity to work in an environment which I am not used to. On Sunday I enjoy teaching children Chinese at Wah Sing Chinese School. I learnt Chinese in Wah Sing for 8 years. I find it interesting but at the same time it gives me great satisfaction as I am contributing to the children's education, which is important for their future.

Playing Bridge in School has earned me a several awards including coming 1st in the Under 25's annual pairs match where represented Merseyside & Cheshire. I also came 1st in the EBU School Pairs Spring 20xx, a national competition. Playing Bridge has taught me the importance of decision-making and problem solving as well, as the importance of trusting your partner.

During my work experience, I worked as an assistant in HSBC; I learnt a lot about how businesses are run, particularly interesting aspects include interaction between customer and worker, hierarchy of a business, and span of control in a business. I have a strong interest in computers and the Internet as a means of communication. By taking part in the Web design for non-designer course organised by a University Student, I learnt about my target audience, the layout of my website, and a good interface for a website. I enjoyed creating my own website. In addition I am also a member of the Wah Sing Website team; this has given me the opportunity to produce articles and write to an audience. The computer world is expanding rapidly and I believe that technology is an important part of the future hence it is important to be well informed, and familiar with its use.

As well as increasing my personal knowledge, I feel that by taking a degree in business studies or management or economics, I will learn transferable skills that will stand me in good stead for the future.

Yours sincerely,

Dear _,

Nowadays the core advantage for an enterprise to secure an edge in the global market is the valuable asset—human capital. More and more people have realized that human capital, as a resource, has become more and more significant for creating social wealth. Based on a survey of the management of the world top 500 enterprises, researchers have suggested that in the 60s, enterprises focused on production; in the 70s, they shifted to marketing; in the 80s, they emphasized capital operation; while since the 90s, they have attached great importance to human resource management. This will inevitably result in more and more needs for Human Resource Management experts. Therefore, I hope I can become a professional in international business, particularly with insights from Human Resource Management, Economics and Finance, serving clients of all lines of work.

As an undergraduate student in Beijing Forestry University of China, I have done sufficient preparations for my pending graduate studies in Human Resource Management. Majoring in Logistics and Marketing, the vigorous and various economic and financial program and relevant courses have allowed me to have a close touch upon Macro/micro-economics, Econometrics, Statistics, Business Management Theories, Accounting, ect, which armed me with a solid basis of fundamentals. However, with constant fervor for Human Resource Management, I didn’t confine my learning to a single academic discipline. I ventured further beyond my curriculum to learn different courses, for example, I exerted great efforts to study Fundamentals of Human Resource Management, Psychology and Sociology, , which I view as necessary building blocks for a successful HR professional in the age of globalization. Therefore, with my curiosity and clear recognition of Human Resource Management, I plan to pursue my graduate education at your program, where I can have a close contact with the renowned professors, and I believe, under their rounded guidance, I will finally realize my ultimate goal as a top-notched expert in Human Resource Management.

Business and corporations nowadays do not rely on professionals knowing only rigid numbers or outdated facts or materials which were obtained from textbooks, while they concern more about flexible utilization of knowledge in the real business world. Bearing this in mind, I actively took part in a wide range of internship. The valuable experiences in Mercers, Inc., benefit me most. As the largest US human resource consultancy firm with substantial presence here in China, I was very lucky to shoot the rare opportunity to practice under the guidance of one of the senior consultant in Beijing Branch. During that period of time, I have assisted leaders of the Human Capital Department for series of projects, such as Cummings Motor Company, ZTE Communications Company. These projects are mainly based on the priding proprietary intellectual property rights IPE (International Position Evaluation) and 3P (Position, Personality and Performance). What’s more, I took responsibilities of checking and analyzing data for 25 dealers in Beijing regions and writing 5 compensation reports and project summary.

From the experience, I deeply recognized that learning of Human Resource Management in classroom couldn’t show me the full and real picture of reality, even though they did impart in me the central principle that human beings are not just particles of a giant machine in the organization. Human Resource Management in reality is very complicated, which covers a wide range of aspects, for example, economic perspective, behavioral analysis, statistics and business accounting applications, and so on. Never before have I become so enlightened and clear of the essentials of Human Resource Management. As part of organizational management, it is necessary for me to understand other functions of the organization, such as marketing, production management, ISO, etc. Such great understanding, on one hand, proves my improved understanding of Human Resource Management; on the other hand, brings great pressure on me, and spurs me to explore more in this field since what I have grasped now is too limited.

In order to balance my life, I also enthusiastically involved in colorful extracurricular activities. For example, I have been once the volunteer in Beijing Running Angel Foundation, raising money for the poor and disabled children. In addition, I have planned and organized many school activities, such as lectures of economic management, the 12th Capital University Student Green Activity “Green Bridge”. All these not only enriched my life, but also provided me a chance to truly experience how to take the fullest advantage of different members’ unique talents, how to cooperate with them, which are very crucial for my further career development.

After careful review of your university, I feel my studies would best be suited there. With your advanced research facilities, world-class faculty, and strong academic atmosphere, I will become knowledgeable in terms of comparative analytical methods, interdisciplinary views toward human factors in workplace, and economic statistics for multi-national organizations. I believe I will reach out faster and easier to my ultimate career goal as a HR expert after studying at your university.

Yours sincerely,

GPA:

IELTS:

6.5或6.0为最低标准线;

TOEFL:

Dear _,

Buildings are a necessity in life, and I would like to be the next innovative mind that will produce works as extraordinary as that of Renzo Piano, Sir Norman Foster and Zaha Hadid. Neo-Futurism is a movement that interests me because of the mix between art and technology which can be shown in works such as Wembley Stadium or The Shard. I think this course will let me showcase my creative, team work and IT skills that are fundamental in this field.

Art is a regular hobby of mine, and studying it in school not only made me experiment with different media and techniques, but at A2, it allowed me to think like an artist and understand, for example, the symbolism of a Pre-Raphaelite painting such as Ophelia. Not having studied Art at GCSE meant that I had to learn new techniques such as mono-printing or dry point within a short amount of time and this progress is shown in my AS sketchbooks.

Mathematics is a subject I have enjoyed throughout my school years, however I believe my AS grade does not reflect my full potential. Classical Civilisation was a subject that I thoroughly enjoyed at GCSE. The modules within the course led me to research about the history of architecture during the Greek and Roman periods. I learned about the detail in which buildings were designed, from the frieze on temples to common buildings such as homes and various key elements which reflected a part of their culture.

English Literature allowed me to broaden my knowledge of Literature by studying novels and poems. This subject has also taught me how to understand someone else’s opinion and counteract with a valid argument through essay-writing and class debates. I feel that this quality will be helpful when discussing social and environmental aspects of designing buildings.

Computing enables me to understand the way in which a system works, and the opportunity to create my own system as part of my A2 unit led me to understand several aspects of computers such as programming, creating databases and working with clients. I have been interested in CAD since I was introduced to it briefly during Textiles Technology at GCSE and since then, I have practiced personal projects with programs such as Photoshop and AutoCAD.

I enjoy helping with teaching lower school students as I usually help out in art lessons on a weekly basis and have also taken part in a peer mentoring scheme in which I was able to guide Year 11 students for their GCSE exams. This is something from which I gained an insight about taking on responsibility and having leadership skills. This year I am also part of the Student Council, and as a sixth form student, it is my responsibility to ensure that input from all key stages are being taken into account during organisation of events or simply for new changes.

Volunteering weekly at Cancer Research helps me gain customer service and work as part of a team for an important cause. I also read novels, and often write works of fiction, including topics such as mystery, crime and coming of age.

I regularly play badminton and I would like to carry this hobby with me to university. Recently I have enrolled on an online course for creative writing in order to broaden my writing skills. A personal visit to Bath earlier this year also heightened this interest in past architectural designs from the Greek and Roman periods and the elements which we still may use today such as arches or aqueducts. I would like to study Architecture at university because I believe that a combination of my skills and creativity will let me integrate well within this course. I am keen to learn about how current technology is used to develop extraordinary and unique buildings, taking culture, nature or even the past as inspiration.

Dear _,

There is a rapid growth in global organisational concepts, crystallised in Japanese business philosophy, to be as effective as possible in the most efficient way. New technology involving networking information and automation influences the behaviour of business and enables significant transformation. This need to maximise efficiency and effectiveness in such a competitive age is increasingly crucial to the success of a business. This is why it is an exciting and fascinating period in both the commercial and economic world to study Business Management.

Adaptability, creative thinking and the application of technology are now intrinsic to managing businesses. I have developed these principles and enjoyed the spectrum of sixth form study that has taught me to approach problems from different political, economical and psychological perspectives. Throughout Business Studies, to complement what has been taught I have researched real-life business solutions and how they have been implemented, such as the responsive marketing used by Coca Cola to prolong their business cycle and sustain major profitability. Studying ICT has enabled me to examine the criticality of technology in giving businesses a competitive edge by considering issues such as organisational objectives, people and legal implications rather than making decisions based solely on financial factors. Furthermore, studying Psychology gives me insight into the human influences on organisational behaviour through studying motivational theories such as the hierarchy of needs model proposed by Maslow, whilst the coursework has developed my skills in collecting and analysing data in order to establish trends and draw conclusions. Studying English Language has allowed me to develop an ability to express my ideas clearly and concisely.

I have worked for _ as a Tester, assisting in the development of _, the fastest-selling PC game ever. It was a significant learning experience and made me evaluate myself and better understand my strengths and skills, such as the ability to easily identify discrepancies and communicate these effectively to management so that problems can be solved. Recent experience at _ Ltd gave me a taste of working within a larger organisation. Operating within two different, but equally successful organisations has enabled me to see contrasting leadership styles and corporate culture. Within college, I participated in a paired reading project where I listened to and assessed readers lower down the school which required a relaxed, patient and friendly approach with the younger students, as well as punctuality and dedication. Throughout the past year, I have represented the college in district basketball and rugby competitions.

I am a committed member of the Colts team at my local rugby side. I have captained the team in previous seasons which required leadership, confidence and diligence. In my spare time, I enjoy listening to a range of music, going to the gym and socialising. I am a regular reader of the Financial Times, enjoy keeping up with current affairs and business news. I enjoy reading a variety of books, both fiction and non-fiction such as 'Making It Happen' (J. Harvey-Jones) where his common sense approach complements the management theories of more staid texts. This degree will equip me for my career in the unpredictable and fast moving world of commerce.

Yours sincerely,
