Dear _,

The success that a person can achieve in his or her career depends largely upon the extent that he or she is emotionally attached to the career that he or she is pursuing. As far as I am concerned, I believe that I am in full possession of the necessary and potential qualities for achieving success in my career because the first day that I was exposed to tourism, I became enamored of this fascinating profession. In undertaking tourism as a profession, I have been exposed to a pluralistic cultural value. In return, I can expose the rest of the world to the ancient civilization of Chinese culture. In other words, I have been able to broaden my vision and horizon on one hand and impart my knowledge of Chinese culture to foreign tourists who come to savor the fascinating Chinese culture. For me, tourism serves as a bridge that connects both China and the rest of the world, linking the past history with contemporary culture. This is exactly the underlying reason behind my intense love of tourism.

As a practitioner of tourism business in China, a major country of tourist attraction, I have always been very proud of the tremendous potential of China’s tourism industry. According to the prediction made by the 14th Conference of World Tourism Organization held in Oct. 2001, China’s tourism will experience a major phase of rapid development within two decades and by 20xx China will become a country of the largest tourist influx. Vice versa, the number of Chinese citizens who visit foreign countries will reach one billion annually, ranking No. 4 in the world. What’s more, China has formally joined the WTO and the Olympic Games will be held in _ within six years. All those factors will contribute significantly to the rapid, yet sustained growth of Chinese tourism industry. In order for China to become a leading country of tourism within 20 years, it is imperative that China’s tourism-oriented hotel industry develop into a mainstay business. In this process, to learn from advanced and successful systems and experiences of hotel industry in the world becomes an indispensable step. It is my expectation that I make my own contributions to this process in my chosen field. This constitutes the most direct motive behind my present decision to apply for a Master’s program in the specialty of Hotel & Tourism Management from your esteemed university.

Compared with a multitude of other applicants, I believe that my greatest competitive edge lies in my academic training and in my ample practical experience in the related fields. My undergraduate career was spent in _ Institute, often regarded as the university of tourism of China. It is the most prestigious university in China which is specifically designed to train future professionals for China’s tourism industry who are equipped with both foreign language competence and specialized knowledge of tourism. On account of this special characteristic of my university, I not only did excellent coursework in my proper specialty—Russian Language—but also benefited importantly from a comprehensive tourism-oriented curriculum that included such specialized courses as General Introduction to Tourism, Geography for Tourism, and Professional Tourist Guide. Taking into account the practical nature of tourism, I took part in a considerable amount of extracurricular activities of fieldwork and internships. I left my footprints in virtually all the major hotels and tourist resorts of _ by working as hotel receptionists and serving as tourist guide. By the time I completed my four-year undergraduate program, I not only mastered Russian language with high proficiency but also achieved all the necessary qualifications for becoming a professional tourism personnel.

For approximately three years since my graduation, I have been working as a tourist guide for international travelers, a career which has further enabled me to accumulate much practical experience and expertise. Working at the European Department of _, the largest travel agency in China, I have been faced with constant challenges. First of all, I have further enriched my professional knowledge and refined my proficiency in foreign languages, both of which are essential for undertaking foreign-related tourism. Apart from using my knowledge of Russian language and relevant knowledge of tourism with much facility, I have made extra efforts to perfect my English language. Over the past two years, I have constantly improved my English language capacity from passing the TOEFL test with a satisfactory score (the test was taken at the end of my undergraduate program) to the present level of independently and perfectly providing tourist guide in English. In addition, I have also developed the ability to prepare all the work plans and documents in English with much facility. Finally, within the past three years, I have received countless international tourists and dealt with a large number of emergency situations. Those experiences have not only trained my ability of organization and coordination, the ability to live and work independently, but also provided me with important opportunities to demonstrate my professional qualities as a well-trained and excellent tourist guide. All those qualities and qualifications, I believe, will prove vitally important to me in achieving success in my future academic program and professional career.

Nevertheless, in my practical work experience, I have become acutely aware that, although China has made considerable development in its tourism and hotel business over the past decade, yet compared with advanced countries and regions in the world, China lags significantly behind them in terms of the level of information and network development, the efficiency of management, the effectiveness of decision-making and, ultimately, the level of profitability. _ constitutes one of the most renowned bases of top-level hotels in the world, full of creative and original concepts of hotel, tourism and cuisine service and management. In the same way, the College of _ of _ University is ranked among the top institutions of high education in hotel management in Asia. Designated as its international headquarters and secretariat by the _, the College has been accepted by the International Tourism Organization as the network member for hotel and tourism education. The College is the only one of its kind in Asia to have received this special honor. It is my expectation to be part of the elite group of this prestigious College. By conforming myself to the trends of the age of knowledge economy and to the demands of the present-day hotel and tourism industry, I am determined to develop myself into professional of hotel management who is equipped both with the advanced knowledge of hotel management in the world but also with the practical experience of local market operations, a person who can assimilate both Western and Chinese experiences. My ultimate plan is to bring advanced hotel and tourism management methods and operations back to the mainland to facilitate my own career development.

Yours sincerely,

本科入学时需要向学校递交高中毕业证、会考成绩单及其公证双认证;

Dear _,

My motivation to study Accounting /Information Business at degree level develops from my enjoyment from the single Business Studies at AS, currently converted into a double award at A2. For me, Business Studies has proved to be a fascinating subject, one that offers unlimited professional opportunities. My coursework case studies of both Norwich Union and Zenith Conservatories have given me an insight into complexities involved in operating such varied businesses, which I have found most intriguing, particularly those which relate to any financial considerations. Studying these business subjects at degree level will allow me to explore, in depth, a range of stimulating and interdisciplinary topics which I feel will give me a broader understanding towards the theories and practices of management in different organisations in relation to a Financial/Information environment

At school, I have participated in many fund raising events, open days and further education fairs. I regularly collect for Save the Children charity and have subsequently become a member. Extra curricular activities have incorporated drama productions of Grease, the promotion of the School production of West Side Story as part of my Marketing unit and a heavy involvement in the preparation and publishing of our year 11 yearbook. These were demanding tasks, which included budgeting our costs and materials to keep within a specific price limit. Although it was tough, I found it extremely satisfying, especially after seeing the final results. My AS Business course has given me an understanding of organisations as a whole, but experiences such as working on the Year book and duties in my part time job has allowed me to expand my knowledge and consciousness of such financial topics. My ICT skills have developed highly through doing Vocational A levels, which I feel is invaluable in the Business field. The main thing I have learnt is that for all businesses, financial matters are imperative; it is the core of any organisation and being knowledgeable in such issues attracts me

My communication skills have been enhanced through my part time employment with River Island. My promotion to weekend footwear manager is developing knowledge of financial record keeping, problem solving, meeting weekly sales targets and teamwork awareness, which I feel can be used and put into practice whilst studying my preferred degree course

From the age of seven I attended a Bury St Edmunds Gymnastics club and competed at County, Regional and National levels. The feeling that I got when I played a role within the team to gain the gold medal was amazing, equal to the feeling when I achieved an individual gold medal as the top National around competitor. The realisation of how important managing school work with a hobby which was not only physically demanding, but emotionally challenging has given me a understanding of how to be realistic, a skill which is valuable when planning certain business strategies

I believe that during my sixth form studies I have grown in both confidence and maturity, preparing me for the opportunity to study at university. My choice of AS and A levels, along with other academic and personal achievements have helped to consolidate and support my desire to study Business at degree level. I believe that I will be fully committed to successfully completing Accountancy /Information Business related degree and relish in any opportunities which are given to help me achieve my aspirations in a business related career.

Dear _,

I have always been interested in businesses and how they operate, as well as being fascinated by other languages and cultural differences

My passion for the subject increased when I chose business studies as part of my main education at school. In addition to the general subjects such as mathematics, literature, history it also included marketing, accounting and economics. Although these subjects are somewhat demanding, I find them extremely interesting. After secondary school I decided to continue my education at Kazakh National University founded by Al Farabi, it is one of the best and oldest universities in Central Asia, in the faculty of the International Economic Relations. I believe that the degree I have obtained, is the best choice for me. I will be looking forward to learning about the international business world and I am relishing the thought of learning to integrate with people from different countries and cultures. The idea of learning to communicate with other people across the world is something that has always appealed greatly to me

My speciality that I have got after graduating from the Kazakh National State University is in the International Economic Relations

I have studied financial management, macro- micro- economics, accounting, international currency-credit relations and other subjects. More profoundly I have studied international economic relations, international organisations, their function around the world and my diploma work The analysis of economic aspects of Kazakhstan oil transportation abroad was written on the basis of the research of the economics relations between Caspian countries: Russia, Azerbaizhan, Iran, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan

Not all my work experience has been as a paid employee. Furthermore I began to take part time jobs when I was at the University; I worked for different financial institutions one of them was National Bank of Kazakhstan in the Credit Department as an Assistant of the Head Manager and in the Currency Department. My work in this Bank taught me to be self-organised, how to make analyses of credit rating and commentaries, function of the currency policy, which is one of the essential part of any bank's activities, and how to work out complex approaches in settlement of different issues and tasks. After this time I have changed my field of work and continued it in the Close Stock Company KazTransOil as an Accountant, which is analysing and developing the plan of transportation oil into different countries

Having important previous experience I have applied my knowledge and skills at the position of an Assistant of Head Accountant in the Financial Department. The main goals of the Department - to provide necessary structure of transportation for joining the main oil field with the processing factories and export it abroad. My responsibility included calculating the budget of the Company, making up balance sheet, and analysing a project plan. However I realised that to work as a professional specialist in a business area for the broader and deeper understanding finance, accounting and international environment are needed

For me as a young specialist it is very important to try an opportunity to continue my education in the University that has proved itself as one of the best among the other recognised universities focusing on business studies, promoting and facilitating research in such significant period when integration is outgrowing to globalisation and countries becoming more dependent on each other. I think that my interest in accounting and finance, educational background and professional experience will open new perspectives for me if I will study at this University. Now I feel that I have potential for realisation myself in the area of finance and my constant interest to this science, to study more deeply this subject, ability to distinguish main economic trends will assist me to transmit my knowledge to other specialists.

Yours sincerely,

Postgraduate Research (PGR) Programs,

MPhil

MRes

Dear _,

Although I have been an avid reader of a wide range of fiction since childhood I delved into literature on a new level when I began studying Access to Humanities. My eyes were opened to poetry for the first time and I have gained an enormous appreciation for the works of Wilfred Owen, Tennyson and William H Davies and their differing styles. The way Owen portrayed the harsh reality of war and the consequences for his fellow comrades, based upon his own intense experiences as a soldier moved me deeply.

My Access to Humanities studies have cemented my fascination with English Literature and confirmed my decision to study English with History at university. Literature and History are inseparably connected. I feel that my study of literature has emphasised my interest in the past as I find myself focusing on the period in which the authors wrote in as well as their lifestyles and possible literary influences. I find Thomas Hardy's The Mayor of Casterbridge enthralling, not only because of the multi- dimensional characters within but also, as so much of the events which occur in the novel are related to my current studies of the Industrial Revolution and how the changes taking place in that period affected the lives of so many.

I recently visited the Museum of Welsh Life and enjoyed absorbing the atmosphere of the heritage site and learning about the people who existed in the periods displayed at the museum.

At present I am working at a local supermarket in which my main duties involve working on the checkout as part of a team, providing good customer service, including dealing with complaints and general queries which has honed my communication skills.

In my leisure time I enjoy reading a wide range of books from authors such as the Bronte sisters and Jane Austen, to modern writers such as Mark Haddon and Douglas Adams. I am also reading Eric Hobsbawm Industry and Empire to aid me in my understanding of the Industrial Revolution and prepare for future study.

Much of my spare time is spent with my family and partner therefore I use effective time management to ensure deadlines are met with my studies.

Music is important to me and I regularly attend concerts with friends, including supporting local bands. Joining activity clubs such as rock climbing and yoga which I have always wanted to try out.

During my time at Coleg Morgannwg, I studied Health and Social Care for three years and then decided to enrol on a Foundation Biology course at Glamorgan University. However I felt I had made an enormous mistake in pursuing this career path and felt completely lost as to where to turn next. On taking a break from education to rethink my future, I have explored various career plans before deciding on teaching. I am certain that teaching is the profession for me, and look forward to inspiring young minds to be as passionate about literature as I am. On completing my degree I plan to apply to Cardiff University to gain a PGCE qualification.

I am dedicated to preparing for my future studies by extending my knowledge on a wide range of literature and eagerly look forward to studying the Nineteenth Century Literature modules in particular and delving deeper into the study of poetry.

Yours sincerely,

At present, the world has 17 international hotel management groups to invest high-star hotel in Shanghai, and hotel of Beijing will reach 800 within three years. As the hotel industry are continuing to expand, the demand for hotel management talent are ever increasing. In China, it need to Thousands of international hotel management talents every year. It is this that attracts me to hotel management as a career because although am aware of the many pressures and demands I would be facing, the sense of achievement and the knowledge that I would be making contribution to my country in the future would be of great personal reward to me!

I first encountered hotel management during work experience with a local hotel, working as a tourist manager assistant in July 20xx.It was a summer job which was supposed to fill up my free time and increase my budget. I knew I was going to like it because I am keen on meeting new people and visiting tourist destinations, but I did not even suspect how much it would affect me. As an assistant I was required to help the tourist manager accommodate the guests and organize different kinds of entertainment. This job gave me opportunity to become acquainted with the work of such people as hotel, club and event managers. I was deeply impressed by their diligence to satisfy every need of their customers. I have realized the responsibility of their profession, but I have also understood how satisfied they are when their clients are happy. I will never forget the face of the tourist manager I worked with when the guests thanked him for the perfect holiday. His face was beaming. Despite the fact I was only an assistant I felt satisfaction too seeing that the tourists were content with our work. This feeling of gratification and even happiness more driven me decide to study Hospitality management.

In 20xx, with my academic performance of high school, especially three years average point of math in high school were approximately 90(full score was 100),among the best in class, I entered Hebei university of Engineering. In fact, when I graduated from high school, I wanted to go to study in America. Because of living with my parents from birth to high school graduation, and without having anyone around to advise me about the new abroad life I will face, I was afraid and not fully ready to figure out everything by myself. This changed, however, during my time at the HeBei University of Engineering. I achieved a G.P.A. of 3.5 during my first academic year and second academic year, and am confident that this third academic year's results will be even better. It is more important that I can deal with everything by myself. Besides my coursework, I joined the Student Art Troupe and Dancer, where I organized and participated various school wide parties, Art Festivals and dancing performances. I also participated in several community service activities, including the Visited Autism Children in Rehabilitation Center, Cared for the Elderly in HanShan Community planting tree in GuangMing Square and so on.

I also developed many extracurricular hobbies .I started to like reading, which largely enriches my knowledge in many different fields. A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking is one of my favorite books. I loved music and was mastered in piano. When fretting, I would listen to some soft music then my heart could clam down; when tired, I would enjoy some classic music or jazz to relax myself; when playing Beethoven’s music by piano, I feel encouraged and moved. I also spend much of my spared time in sports especially basketball and soccer, in which teamwork are highly involved.

The success of these two years instilled within me a drive to improve myself, prompting me to seek greater challenges and rewards; I am now ready for the path to academic excellence and figure out everything by myself. I have become a very ambitious and hard-working student, and the Johnson and Wales University is ideal for my needs.I believe Johnson and Wales University will provide me with the perfect atmosphere for bettering my life and my creative abilities. And it will offer me much more than an education. It also will offer me the opportunity to learn how to be an individual who can fulfill society's needs both now and in the future. When I think of Johnson and Wales University, the aspects that most impress me and fan my desire to immerse myself in this prestigious learning environment are JWU’s excellent resources. It has an outstanding undergraduate program. Its environment is conducive to learning and growing. In addition to having some of the most recognized and lauded faculty in world, JWU is committed to maintaining a diverse student population. As person of Chinese heritage who grew up in China, and is now planning to embark on my university studies in the United States, I see this commitment to diversity as an essential element.

My ambition for the future is to become a fully qualified manager and to work my way up in a large five star hotel or seven star hotel to become a hotel Manager. I have read many case studies of people who have achieved this and I am working hard in order to gain the skills and knowledge these successful hotel managers have. And, I am absolutely committed to becoming a successful manager and will work endlessly in order to achieve my goals.

Yours sincerely,

Dear _,

In this age of information, economic globalization is subjecting the entire world to an irresistible, all-encompassing and profound transformation. Any single nation has the likelihood to exceed the boundaries of its domestic market, and its natural and human resources to realize an optimum allocation of resources on the international level. By now, a pattern of multinational competition has developed and China’s accession into the WTO has provided it with a rare opportunity to integrate into the international mainstream economies and to realize its immense development potential. But at the same time China is bound to an important obligation—its solemn promise to abide by all the rules and regulations of trade as agreed upon by all the WTO member countries. Under such circumstances, it is necessary for China to open its market according to prevalent international conventions and practices and bring its mode of economic operation and management, along with relevant laws and regulations, into an international framework until absolute conformity is achieved.

Against such a larger background, the physical and geographical concept of the nationality of an enterprise has been virtually eliminated. The intensification of international competition is bound to create resource allocation on a global scale. How to implement cross-population and trans-cultural management system and comprehensively elevate international competitiveness is a challenging subject that enterprises in developing countries like China have to face. It is precisely based on this recognition that I, now on the verge of completing my undergraduate program, plans to pursue a master’s program in management whereby I may study and research on how international economy operates and how multinational companies apply their effective management.

My four-year undergraduate program in Broadcast and Television Journalism at the Department of Journalism and Information Communication of _ University of Science and Technology has enabled me to acquire an open mentality, acute insights and rich practical experience. I have been the top student of my class, not only because of my consistent No. 1 ranking in terms of academic performance but also because of my role as major organizer of a number of extracurricular activities related to journalistic practices. As vice head of our university’s TV station, I produced a great number of special feature programs. I interned at a local newspaper office and at _ Provincial TV Station, winning a provincial-level award for my journalistic reporting. I was the assistant producer of a special show about _ Province in a serial program “Across China” by _’s Phoenix Cable TV. Through playing different roles, as a student of journalism and working as journalist and TV producer, I have developed an important academic foundation, effective management skills and interpersonal communication. In addition, I have a unique advantage—I have done a second degree in English for Science and Technology. Those factors will be important for my working toward a more advanced degree program.

As a sophomore, I started my bi-degree program in business administration. I prized this important opportunity as I discovered that it is the subject in which my true interest lies. In this program, I have systematically studied all the relevant management courses including Human Resource Management, Marketing, and Market Planning. My academic performance in this program is equally satisfactory. In May 2002, as one of a few student delegates, I participated in the Third MBA Development Forum of China held in the City of _. I helped my advisor prepare his presentation and I also interviewed leading scholars and experts on MBA in our country. This experience significantly deepened my understanding of management and broadened academic perspectives.

My distinguished academic performance in the first three years has qualified me for a direct master’s program in journalism in my Alma Mater. However, I am very clear about my academic interest and my future career objectives. Therefore I have relinquished the offer in favor of applying for a more advanced education in management. As a discipline western in origin, management science is undoubtedly a field of study whose teaching and research western universities are most good at. Therefore, I am determined to apply for a Master’s program The London School of Economics and Political Science, arguably the better of the best western universities in social sciences. Your esteemed university enjoys a unique academic position and an unparalleled academic reputation in the western world, with a large number of leading scholars working in their respective fields. Situated in London where one can witness distinctive cultural parallelism, it will not only teach me the most updated professional knowledge but also ample sociological understanding of its cultural diversity.

In my proposed study, I will contribute my research talents because I possess experience of participating in a major research project. For an entire year from December 2002 to December 2003, as the sole undergraduate of the research group, I took part in the Study of _ City’s Specialized Water Management System, which is part of the country’s “863” key scientific and technological research program undertaken by _ Bluewater Science and Technology Company. I performed field study of the water resources in the _ region of _ City and the wealth of statistics that I collected and codified provided valuable reference materials for the entire research group. In addition, I proposed that BOT(Build-Operate-Transfer)could be employed to construct a small-scale waste-water treatment plant. The most important role I played was the substantive research I carried out for the topic on Lake Management System and the research report that I co-authored. Prof. _X, the leader of the research group, praised me as “demonstrating impressive professional dedication and sound research potential, with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.”

I have lived a colorful extracurricular life. Learning dancing in my childhood, I became the leader of the dancing team of our university’s art troupe, and launched traveling performances in neighboring provinces. Representing _ Province, I participated in China’s First National Dancing Contest for University Students, at which I won the third prize. Moreover, as a key member on the Student Management Committee of our university’s library, I organized a campus-wide book-reading festival. In 2001, as one of the five delegates of our university, I attended the New Millennium Administrative Elites Training Program jointly sponsored by _ Chinese University and _ General Chamber of Commerce. I have been working as a secretary at the International Exchange Department of _ University of Science and Technology where I am responsible for receiving foreign delegations, offering consultations and arranging lectures and academic conference. Based on those experiences, I will continue contributing my extracurricular talents.

In this age of increasing specialization, I hope to develop myself into a specialist on human resource management with the best training from one of the world’s best academic institutes. Therefore, receiving a quality education from _ will be a vital step to my personal and career development and to the fulfillment of this long-cherished aspiration of mine.

Yours sincerely,

Dear _,

My ‘A’ Level English studies have introduced me to a more academic teaching style with an emphasis on the need for independent work, in order to gain the very best grades. I enjoy seeking more depth and insight, whether for school texts of private reading and study. I have often made use of Leach Scragg’s “Discovering Shakespeare’s Meaning” when studying “Romeo and Juliet”, “Macbeth”, “Twelfth Night” and “The Merchant of Venice” to help me to read and understand the plays more thoroughly. Anthony Holden’s biography has given me a basic understanding of Shakespeare and his world. I have recently purchased “Literary Theory: An Anthology”, edited by Rivkin and Ryan to support my developing interest in critical theory.

In my studies to date I have looked at the modern novel but have recently become interested in learning more about the Victorian novel as the precursor to modernism. I am exploring the concept of the didactic, omniscient narrator and how Victorian authors dealt with issues of contemporary social change. I have read Dickens’s “Great Expectations” and am currently reading Eliot’s “Middlemarch”. A theme that interests me is that of religious faith and doubt also expressed at the time through Victorian post-romantic poetry, such as Arnold’s “Dover Beach” and Clough’s “The Latest Decalogue”.

My reading of modern literature, exploring the theme of “teenage angst” has included works by J.D.Salinger, Nicky Hornby and Sue Townsend. I have also enjoyed the monologue art form of Alan Bennett’s “Talking Heads”. Through his artless narrators I feel that Bennett successfully reveals the comic aspect of the too often tragic human condition. (This tragedy is explored further in the darker, “Talking Heads Two”).

My other studies have broadened my knowledge but I have been keen to incorporate literary aspects. In art, I am currently writing a critical and analytical study on “Stuckism” and last year I completed a piece of work based on the Canterbury Tales. French, apart from providing me with a second modern language, has given me the opportunity to sample foreign literature i.e. Pagnol’s “Jean de Florette” and “Manon des Sources”. I have also found that having to communicate in a foreign language has given me the skill of revising my thinking before I speak or write. Next summer I am going to stay with French friends in the South of France and am then hoping to considerably improve my fluency.

My vocational ‘A’ Level in “Media: Production and Communication” has fuelled an interest in linguistics that I have furthered by reading “The State of the Language” by Phillip Howard. This ‘A’Level has helped me to appreciate the richness of the English Language with its jargon, slang, dialects, argot, clichés, and foreign influences. It has given me the opportunity to edit and write for “The ________” and the ambition to be involved in campus publications in the future.

I enjoy going to the theatre and have seen productions by the RSC, our local TOADs theatre company as well as televised productions such as “A Day in the Death of Joe Egg”. I have also had a role in a university student play and had the opportunity to watch other degree level drama.

Yours sincerely,
